What purpose did the rivets on the header bow serve? I don't see anything on mine that they held? |

The cover? are you talking about the ones about 3 inches apart all the way across? if so that keeps the cover material on. |

yep- those ones. I've looked at my Bentley, and searched here- but don't see how the top is connected to the header bow by these rivets. I would think there wouldn't be enough material to grab well- and would tear to top? Are there washers, or something I'm missing that will hold the material better? Pics would be great! |

I'll see if I can find pics. you place the rivets in from the topside thru the metal bow, then thru the lower flap of the cover, then a washer, then swell them. |

I used tiny size #4 machine screws, washers, and locknuts. The protrusion doesn't interfere. |

memory is foggy- is there a thin "pad" that goes on top of header? To help hide rivet heads? |

The holes should be stair stepped so the head of the rivet is sunk or flush with the bow, so no padding needed. just get the right size head to fit the recessed area. |

Countersunk for sure. I meant underneath where the nut will end up. Rivets are most original, of course.
Your ragtop front should have the header bow area sewn in front and on both sides to slip over the bow. Glue on the fat 1/2 moon weather seal then pull back and glue the flap EmpiGT mentioned before smashing the rivets. |

Pop rivets are another option for this.
Original for reference:
