My bumpers and and side view mirrors are chrome and I would like to know if there is any way I could paint them the right way.
Is there any way I could paint chrome parts?

You can sand them down, then use an etching primer for the base so the paint will stick. _________________ www.texasaircooled.com

I guess it would be with a very aggressive sand paper and a machine and try to sand as much as possible the chrome right? |

Yeah, aggressive at first, then switch over to a finer grit. It can be done, just takes a little elbow grease _________________ www.texasaircooled.com

Great thanks, i will do that, side view mirrors must be a pain in teh rear as they have so many small parts.
Thanks again, |

I assume you are talking about chrome that is in good shape? If it's flaking or spider-webbing when it flakes or separates the paint will go with it.
What about stripping and powder coating? Cheaper than chroming and more durable than painting. |

Just take it to the plating shop if you have one in your area,,they can strip the plating off it in a method thats similar to plating, lower in cost than plating due to much less labor,,
See what they say,
Good luck. |

If you can gain access to a small blast cabinet, with the right media, you can remove the plating or pit it enough to provide a "tooth" for the metal etch primer to make a good bond.
Just make sure to mask off any glass on the mirrors to prevent them from being destroyed.
I have a cabinet that I used to strip my bumpers and door handles for paint. I used aluminum oxide as the media.
I'd highly recommend against using the Muratic Acid bath method... it works, but you're left with an extremely toxic brew, with no easy or inexpensive means of disposing of.
Best of luck... |
