So I did a quick search but couldn't find what I was looking for. Where do you guys mount your fire extinguishers? I was thinking in front the front seat. Not that I ever want to use it personally but I like knowing it's there. I'm just trying to decide where to put it within easy access? Any thoughts?

I know I should have been more specific, it's a 68 type 1. I've had it just around in the back seat luggage compartment, yes I know that's not the best place for it. I just was wondering what everyone else did as I still have my back seat in place. _________________ Stupid people do stupid things. |

That's the worst place. _________________ Glenn

I have mine mounted in the trunk. Not a good place if your trunk locks, mine doesn't. I figured if I see smoke/fire coming from the engine the first thing I'm doing is getting out. At that point I just open the trunk and grab it. Many people mount them inside/front but likely I would space out and jump out without it, unlikely I'm going back in to get it |

I have one under drivers seat still in box. Fits perfectly. Could just as easily put under pax seat. Seemed like a good out of the way spot to me. |

In the event of a collision it will become a missile and who knows where it will wind up or hit.
You want a USCG bracket. _________________ Glenn

Thanks for the quick responses as always, it always seems to me after I post a stupid question I usually find the threads I'm looking for or pics of what I want to do...
Irun5k I like the sideways action you have but it looks smaller than the 2.5lb I have and seems a little funny. I have a tray under there so that took my option away right now, though I have thought about removing it too. _________________ Stupid people do stupid things. |

Yup, mine is a 1.4lb HalGuard- anything larger probably wouldn't work in that orientation. I was going to mount it in a fore-aft orientation but there were some existing holes from the PO that I reused and it worked out quite well.
Whatever you do though, I would secure it well… it could become a hell of a projectile in an accident. Maybe the least of your concerns in an accident of that magnitude, but maybe not... |

I'm not sure if I want to put it in the back seat because we all know the vast amount of room there, especially if my nephews or nieces ever sit back there let alone another full size adult...
I am thinking about having it perpendicular to the seat rails of the driver seat, hypothetically I can grab it before I even get out of the car, and doesn't seem to be in the way of anything.
I will be mounting it securely no matter where I put it, it does have a uscg mount. Luckily my uncle works for a fire instillation company and get them for free or next to nothing _________________ Stupid people do stupid things. |

The factory location of the fire extinguisher for the Mexican Beetles is on the passenger side near the door:

Thats where I mounted mine in my 72. Is a good spot and doesn't interfer with the passenger. |

Well that speaks volumes . Not many cars come with factory mounted fire extinguishers. Surprising they didn't run a sprinkler system |

As much as I use the tray I'm not starting to wish I had made it differently and made provisions for the extinguisher... _________________ Stupid people do stupid things. |
