And why didn't you get bill of sale when you paid him?
You could always inform Everett of this story and see if he would be willing to comment. Maybe if things look kosher he may suspend the old PO ads till he responds. _________________ Special Thanks to:

3 months is plenty long enough to give someone time to do something. Especially if it means you can't register a bus you bought from him...?
Naming him will either validate his difficult situation, because friends or other dealers/flippers will post here and validate what he says...or may reveal it's a cover story and possibly a sham.
(And you sometimes find each story has more than one side to it. Not implying anything, just saying) |

Not sure about the laws in the states, but is it possible that he reports the vehicle stolen/loss and then try to claim insurance or what not? |

Does the signature on the bill of sale have to match some other document ??
If not, I'd write my own. And as Curtis asked, why didn't you get one when you paid him ?? _________________ Tom

I always just make one myself, but I always get the title as soon as my money is good to them. _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

Looks like you live in California.
I've done a "Statement of Facts" form when applying, where you can name the person and address. Then you say you trailered the bus from his private property to your private property. You state that the title has been lost.
If the bus is clean, no parking or unpaid moving violations, and off the current DMV registration list, then it's yours. |

What BarryL said. California is very forgiving of lost titles. They will issue a new one if there are no legal issues and the numbers match. With a split, there is only one VIN plate so it has to match. Possession is ownership unless there is a warrant or a theft report. Just go to the DMV and ask what it will take. You might have to pay back registration if there was no certificate of non-operation. |

How did you get the bus before he got his money? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like he let you have the bus without getting paid, you paid without getting papers, then got it running without any paperwork. Making your own bill of sale might work, but IF he has any intention of screwing you, that might look bad later.
I'd contact your DMV/title office, tell them what's going on, and see what they suggest.
FWIW, putting time and money into a bus that isn't yet legally recognized as yours is a risky gamble. |

Big fat lesson learned at this point right? What a bummer
Your post is unclear and it's an important nuance...
Yes or no: you have paid this man in full for the car? |

Did you give him his money? |

From the OP's post:..." I held up my side of the deal gave him the money paid the shipping everything ! "
Sounds like the seller just doesn't want to take the time to send the paperwork. |

Got it. It was tough to read due to such interesting paragraph structure. |

Afaik, a bill of sale without a title, it does not mean anything. At least in the state of California. Follow the suggestion given for getting a title. |

Yeah that was a hard one to follow. All I was thinking is there's more to the story. Like some sort of payment plan gone awry. Weird he wouldn't turn it loose for no reason. |

Just wanted to add that it's not bing bang boom yours.
They will do a search through data bases of law and registration, make you relinquish or fee the plates, bring in the bus for the vin certification. They may even make you send a certified letter to the seller and require that it come back un-opened. |

I think you should stop fooling around and contact an attorney. Also make him pay the legal expenses. This was a "good faith" transaction. |

Hmmm. The OP has not clarified this thread at all since it was posted yesterday at 2AM. Me thinks there's more to this story.
A simple drop in here would suffice. From what little I could follow- it appears he may have his own BOS, but the seller has not given him his previous BOS for lack of title- because maybe it could never be transferred to his name legally. Perhaps the seller's BOS from when he got it is also full of holes (like no signature from the PPO?) or never really existed.
I'd put that thing on a trailer and get down to the DMV for a VIN inspection and do this your way- ASAP, before legal brakes put that bus on hold. _________________
