Definitely NOT a Porsche motor.
But that's not such a bad thing...

Looks like a 1600DP VW engine with a aftermarket shroud and dual carbs. _________________ Glenn

I would be wary of any other claims the PO made... and have a thorough check done by a trusted mechanic! |

*Spits out coffee*
Man i didn't know i had so many porsche engines at my house ( sarcasm)
If the PO told you that, and actually believed it, I would go over every aspect of the car with a fine toothed comb. Better to ask questions and get informed

I do so love the fan nut used on the generator pulley, makes me wonder what the fan end looks like. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

OMG that has the Porsche flavor but sorry its not a Porsche engine. I guess you could say a detuned Porsche engine. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Do they have fraud laws in California?
He didn't claim "I have no idea about this engine", claimed it was Porsche. I almost spit my coffee out my nose when I saw your post.
Please tell us you did not pay extra for the "Porche" Engine.
Does it seem to have alot of power for a bug. It may be bored out. _________________ "Sic Vic Pacem, Para bellum - Pray for peace, prepare for war."

Im actually a lil relived its just a vw motor. . Its my 1st bug. Id prefer it being all vw.. the motor was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago. But has been sitting for a few years.. ill post pics. Id like to know what u guys think about the purchase... im still very much happy about the car |

It is a Porch motor if you built it on a Porch or you have a Porch or know someone who had or has a Porch. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Or it was found under a porch.... holding said porch up..
Or simply someone who is unsure how pronounce "Porsche" .. which seems to be the most common issue..
Seems to be a regional thing..
Of course.. I've heard... the arrogance level of a Porsche owner/driver is easily determined on the way they pronounce the name too!

If you are happy with it then you are good. Pics are good. May be a little high on price but a little love and alot of cash goes along way on rebuilding. The rubber o nthe lid looks alot dry rotted and the wiring mess on the drivers side worries me. Great carbs though. If you take out the engine think about putting a new fire wall board in. It will quiet the engine noise. _________________ "Sic Vic Pacem, Para bellum - Pray for peace, prepare for war."

Hey its all good, a little love some new parts, fresh oil, grease it up, air the tires & check for cracks. Test the brakes. Drive & enjoy. If you like it keep it. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

You are WAY better off with the engine being VW instead of Porsche: Porsche parts cost a #%&*%#%^&^*#$^@&* fortune !!! _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
