Good evening. I am working on a 1967 beetle and the windshield has a perma ring of fog around the outside of glass. Was wondering if anybody has had the same issues? |

Pretty common. It's due to the safety glass delaminating and you'll have to replace the windshield as I don't believe there's any way to fix it. |

If you must replace.. then replace.. but be sure to cut it out as you can sell the old one to the patina crowd..

That really is one of the crazyest things I have read on Samba !! .
I can't imagine going through the aggravation of installing a windshield that was fogged . _________________ 63 two fold rag

I've got a few jars of German air from the 60's plus a big cylinder of '67 only air. Anyone interested? Last guy I sold to also bought a bridge I had in Brooklyn. _________________

If it is the original glass, some people only want German parts, be it foggy edges or whatever. I installed a used chipped windshield in a customer truck. He bought it & we installed. Harley Davidson truck. Made the resale value go up, all original. I get paid customer happy. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

the fogging is caused by damp getting into the Polyvinyl butyl layer which is the laminate between the glass sheets _________________ CGLI qualified body repair and refinish tech

How do you wipe off something that is on the inside of the glass?? Did I miss something here? _________________ "Sic Vic Pacem, Para bellum - Pray for peace, prepare for war."

Is the 60's air pre-67 or post-67? _________________ "The new Volkswagen 1303. We've made so many improvements, they're beginning to show." |

I found this on an old Chevy forum. Might be worth a try:
If your glass is 'foggy' around the edges from de-lamination, try this. Using a heat gun or hair dryer, start heating the area affected and heat all around the foggy area for a couple of inches past the trouble spot. Be carefull not to get it hot enough to crack, a hair dryer usually won't, but a heat gun can! I have cleared many windshields this way and never broke one. The best part is it lasts a long time (usually years)!!! |
