Ok this is the thing. My gen died. So got a alt. Got every nut and screw off but the bottom right side of backing plate on fan shroud. Which is a flat head screw driver type bolt that is round so i cant get anything onto it the intake is in the way.so was thinking cutting off the manifold and upgrade a little.

Just get the screw out. You won't be saving time upgrading to duals.

Also i tried the needle nose vice grips but the bolt in there is a rounded off type and the metal lip on the fan cover sticks out. Making it hard to get a good bite on it.

If you're in a daily driven hurry, switching to dual carbs and trying to tune them on the side of the road does not save you work release time.

You are wasting your time planning to cut the manifold intake. It's a risk especially when metal fragments will be likely to be sucked into the engine. Simply loosen 2 nuts on the side of the fan house and push it up just enough to get the last bolt out. Patience... You will save more money than to buy new manifold intake and possibly new engine.

What single throat carbs are you looking at? Kadrons, ICT's Baby Dells...
I like Kads I have used them several times and they worked well everytime. You should get better power and better mileage, even better if you add an extractor exhaust too. Are you single port? Single port manifolds are getting scarce in my area.
