Okay, I'll jump in here. I had a set of Weber ICTs on my '58 single cab in the 90s. Stock profile cam and a 009, and they ran very well. They had no choke so there was lots of tap dancing on the throttle for the first while on some colder mornings, but ran well after warmed up.
They are easy to balance and stay set up for ever.

Gordo.

Only 4 bolts and the motor is out, hit the screw with a chisel to start it and it's fixed.
Then you'll know how to pull the motor when you do your upgrades.

Yes, save time, pull engine, fix properly.

Another vote for this... It'll take you longer to cut through the manifold and swap carbs and all that nonsense than it will to just pull the motor and fix it properly.

+ 120000

Just pull the motor. You could be driving by now if you did.

Yes it will. It will allow you to easily lift the fanshroud up and access the screw. And while you're there, swap the backing plate screws for hex bolts, that's what VW intended to be there, so you don't have to get to it from straight on.

Being able to get at that bolt from all angles HAS to be easier than from the one torturous angle thru the engine lid.

Been a while since I worked on a single port but why not remove carb and then remove the 4 nuts holding the manifold on, then when thats out of the way you can get to your fan shroud screw. Or get a really long drill bit and drill right through the manifold, and then through the screw, afterwards duct tape the manifold back up. it's fool proof Laughing

Have you tried a magnetic screw driver TIP and a small box wrench or socket?
