|
Hey!
New to the site - but been poking around for a long time. I have question that I hope you guys can help with.
I just bought a 1970 Squareback (my first car was a '69 SB) from Lillian...who is 101 years old and the original owner!!! The car was her driver and is in almost perfect original condition - totally unmolested. Naturally, it has a few dings and normal wear, but well maintained, with all the records and a really nice car.
I've had many air cooled's over the years but have not come across anything like this and wonder what it might be worth. Hope this is not too tacky, but I just don't know. Thanks!!!

Sweet!
Well, it's worth what you paid, right?

Thanks! It's a pretty cool story. I'll get some more pictures when I pick it up. The other thing is that it's identical (well, apart from the body changes that year) to my '69 Squareback that was my first car back in '76. Same color, interior, automatic and all. |

Congrats on the purchase. It sounds like you got a really nice car.
IMHO, buying a car from the original owner only gives the car added value if (1) it was well taken care of (possibly as in your case) and (2) you get all the paperwork from day one with it (as you did). Beyond that it's not provable and is just a nice anecdotal story about a car.
As for value that it adds. . . Only the next guy who buys it from you will be able to tell you what that is by his buying price. Of course this also depends on how you keep it up. . . _________________ Regards,

Also, it's no longer a one owner car.
Looks like a great car though! I can't wait to get my square up to that point. |

Hey guys! Finally got the '70 delivered a couple of weeks ago and it's definitely a time capsule. As it turns out, "Lillian" - a tribute to the original owner - has only 40K (driven about 3K in the last ten years) and is original through out. Interior is near perfect and it's a "radio delete" with the chrome plug for the antenna still in place. Also included is the owners manual, jack and tool kit - with the tools! The only thing is the dash pad crack, and even that's not too bad.
Outside, looks like she may have taken a shot to the right quarter/door and from the body work, looks like a long time ago. Rubber is still pretty good as is the paint and chrome - looks like it was garaged for at least most of time. All the time is there and everything works - even the windshield washers.
Nothing much to fix - runs and shifts (automatic) perfectly - except a bad ball joint and a worn out window scraper. Pretty cool to find a survivor like this and wanted to share the find with the forum. She could be restored with little effort, but I kinda like the originality - only original once, right! |

Love / Hate those racks. Love the style, hate how they're drilled into the car... |

That's a nice time capsule you have there. Very nice score. I think we've only seen 3 or 4 cars like this come up on here in the last handful of years.
Fix only what needs fixing, and drive it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
