just noticed a drop or two on the floor passenger side just behind the firewall - no leak from the right side hardline or hose that I can see. Seems likely it's someplace as the hardlines to rear enter the tunnel maybe. there is no fluid forward of the firewall, it appears to be accumulating behind that. Where further to look? Do the hardlines to rear run inside the tunnel? |

Brake line runs along outside tunnel on driver side. My guess is your master cylinder is leaking inside the bulk head. Remove the brake push rod from the pedal assembly , Then stick a q-tip inside the boot to see if there is fluid present. If there is, then time for a new MC |

Waited a while, but just completed replacing the master cylinder. Not a tough job really, and did discover the previous owner had replaced it not all that long ago, but failed to wire the warning lamp at all when switching from the older three-switch unit to the 2-switch variety - fixed that. It did appear the leaking fluid made its way into the bulkhead, then also down the tunnel where it was exiting forward of the transmission. I'll need to clean all that mess up.
The hard lines all freed up nicely with the help of the correct tools, though I did snap one of the bleeders on the 2-cylinder front caliper. No leaks, but will need to fix that at a later date. The new unit came with a "lifetime" warranty, which is good because it seems the other one must have lasted about three years. |
