Went to finish the tune up on my new to me 70 standard with 1500sp and found this. It seems to always be something.
It was actually longer, and I cut it down. Hence the hacksaw in the pic. Not having a readily available fix, I put it back in. This was in #3. #4 was damaged as well, but had a helicoil, which I put back in as well. No time to fuss with it today, plus it runs.

Jeez.
Do you have a pic from the chamber with it in? The plug electrode must be way out of the chamber with that 'fix'.. Is #3 firing like that? _________________ 1973 1303 with AB-motor - sporadic

I'm assuming its firing. It doesn't sound like its missing and I get good heat out of the exhaust. I don't have a pic from inside since that would've been a project I'm not quite prepared to tackle just yet.
What am I looking at repair wise? Am I looking at a new head or is their a heli coil big enough to fix this? In the car, or out of the car?
I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna be fixing a lot of nonsense for a while. |

Is that a new sparkplug in #3? If it's what you took out it's very clean, and looks like no combustion in #3. You could test for #3 firing by running the car and pulling #3 plug lead while listening for a change. I've no experience with helicoils. However, what you want is that the plug electrode is in the chamber but the threads of the plug are not. You may be able to use what you have there with a bit of measuring and a longer reach plug and get away with it. _________________ 1973 1303 with AB-motor - sporadic

Sorry. That is a new plug. The old one was a little carboned up. But I do believe it is firing. Even runs pretty smooth. Not sure about power though as I have not been able to really run it in the street because of hesitation issue and now clutch spring, clutch pedal shaft breaking. |
