|
|
Hey everyone!! I'll start off by saying this is my first classic VW and so far I'm having a blast building this car. I'm currently working on a 1973 SB that I'm making into a rat rod and yes those are dual wheels on the rear : ). Here's some pics of what I've done so far. I plan on pulling the body off soon to patch it up over the winter.
Here's a roof rack I built for the car out of an old hand truck. The front mounts are made to look like skeleton hands holding the rack to the car.

Just for grins, how much does a pair of your dual rear wheels/tires weigh? The handling should be... interesting.
Are you starting with a running/driving car? _________________ "The new Volkswagen 1303. We've made so many improvements, they're beginning to show." |

They aren't the lightest wheels haha. The car is not running and driving at the moment. When I pull the body off, I'm pulling the engine too so that I can get it running on the bench and maybe build it up a little. I don't know how those 45 horses are going to turn those duals. |

I'm very interested in how you're going to make dually wheels. I kinda want to do that for running in the sand.
Like these but much bigger:

Well, they are actual dual wheels I pulled off of an old Toyota camper in the junkyard. I need to have adapters made for it but, other than that they should be fine. |

What are you planning to do with the Super Beetle front end? Frame graft, something custom? Certainly can't leave it as McPherson struts. |

I'm not sure yet on that. Gonna get the body straightened out this winter and then go from there. The floor pans and frame head are badly rotted so I have to replace the chassis anyway. |

I'm in some dire need of advice here. I have the body off of the bug and plan on setting her on a small truck frame. I am having a lot of troubling with the doors sagging horribly with the heater channels cut out and no matter what I do, they refuse to cooperate. Any advice? I need to get the door situation fixed before I can put it on a frame. |

I actually ground down the end of each tooth to prevent any danger. |

Don't know if you fixed the door sag problem but you will have to tie the bottoms of the A and B pillors together again like the heater channel was doing. |

Any update? I am very intrigued by this build. I am currently working on a 67' beetle street rod and this is giving me some ideas!
Thanks, Triston |
