Hi,
My Name is Gorm and i am currently driving in my 1973 T2(bay) from Canada to hopefully Argentina. I started on September 6th in Halifax, Nova Scotia and made my way to New jersey now, where i was for the last days. My next destination will be Chicago, Illinois!
The van is not an original Westfalia, it's a custom camper from a carpenter who made 24 of them at the north sea coast in Germany. I restored the interior and the outside to be able to drive the van on a journey like this. I hope it won't break too often ( as copito from Hasta alaska). As i was going north from Nova Scotia, i filled the 800.000 km's on it!
I already knew your site from the "Classified"-section but i didn't knew the forum-part. I met someone here (Brian), who proposed to me to introduce myself to you and i thought it might be a good idea. As i am always searching for nice people with similar interests, i think i'm good in your hands.
If you are interested in Bus-travellers, you might check out my page on facebook. Just search for "Bee-individual" on facebook and you'll find me. If you are near to a current position just leave me a note and i'll invite you for a beer or a chat or something. The most important part in travelling is meeting people and since i am travelling alone right now, i would love to get to know you guys! I'm also always searching for spots to park the van for a night.
looking forward to meeting you,
Gorm
PS: If someone speaks german, he can also check out my german blog: www.bee-individual.de (+high re. fotos)

X2 on the custom interior pics! Welcome to the U.S! I wish I was near Chicago, but sadly I am about 1,000 miles away! For places to stay overnight, you can pay a fee and stay at one of many national parks, or go informal and stay for free at any Wal-Mart parking lot! Yes, apparently they let truckers and RV vehicles stay there, so why not a bus!
Safe travels! |

Welcome, and safe travels!
It looks like you have separated the front cab from the rest of the bus, which should help you stay warm up front while driving for sure.
Even better, it looks like you can slide a panel up/down to separate it or not....

Hi again. THanks for the nice response!
You're right, the camping comp. is divided from the drivers compartement. You can lift the cover of the Stove to cook and use the sink and mirror. When it's open, it closes the window between the camping and drivers area.
Sorry for the mess!
In the back, you can sleep in the bed. on the left and right side, there are places to store the clothes. In the white "wardrobe" on the left, you can put things on hangers, in the holes in the back, you can put other clothes. on the right side, theres a shelf for books and things like that behind the white door. There are reading lights on both sides!
The middle of the bed can be "popped up" to have a table in the middle of two benches.
In the back above the bed, there is a fan which takes air from outside inside and gives a good, moskito-proof ventilation
the van has a small euro-style pop-up top!
All the best, Gorm[/img] |

Hey, if you are still in Jersey, give me a call [908-377-5577]. I'm in Central Jersey, just north of Princeton. I'd like to buy you a beer before you head west.

Willkommen!
You are traveling the U.S. at a great time of year. Please stay in touch with this forum so we may help you if you need it. You will find many friendly and helpful people here.
And while we're having a cultural exchange let me thank a German for all the great engineering and cars! I've owned VWs and BMWs, hope to get to Porsches and Mercedes at some point. _________________ Godspeed
