Looks like the "views" count was removed.
Also number of views and watchers removed from "manage my ads" page. _________________ Glenn

Curious - Do you mean they were all zeros or the columns were not there at all?
I definitely did not remove the columns.
If they were all zeros then maybe there was some glitch. _________________ How to Post Photos

Yes, this may be temporary though. |
I miss the view count for several reasons. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

I miss the view count also, both for selling and buying _________________ Rick

no problem being public about it.
as a buyer, if something looks like a good (or excellent) deal, but the view count is high, i often won't bother contacting the seller because i figure it's already sold or a deal is in the works.
it also works the other way too. if i see a great deal with a low count, i'll contact the seller quickly.
as a seller, if i have something listed i can see how many people have looked at an ad if i receive multiple emails in a short period of time. tells me i have something listed too cheap. i know this can be done through the ad manager page too, but it's easier to just click the ad link in an email and see the info on the ad.
i talk with certain sellers off site about how sales are going, and when discussing such things, it's helpful to see how many views and ad has to "plan strategy" and such business gobbledygook.
it's also great fodder for whines threads. you can tell something has been talked about then the ad is like a day or two old, yet there are several thousand hits already. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

There's an implied For Sale (FS) in the classifieds.
It might be nice if you could select a radio button for:
(FS) For Sale
(WTB) Want to Buy
(WTT) Want to Trade
Beginning of each ad could insert 'site' text and be similar to:
(FS) '67 Kombi
or
(WTB) '67 Kombi
or
(WTT) '67 Kombi _________________ aka: Evan

I disagree but only because the default is for sale so that should be a given and a prefix is not needed.
I will often delete any ad that has the text "for sale" in the title as it is unnecessary.
Direct trades are pretty rare so most trades need to be in Trades section only. _________________ How to Post Photos

Much like the gallery has you pic a category (i.e. 55-67 panel vans)... the classifieds for "vehicle sales" should require model information to be selected from a list & then the ad is placed in the right category. Then it would benefit viewers by cutting down on whines about being in the wrong category... and there would be less "reports" and corrections for moderators to deal with.
Maybe re-arrange how people select what they are selling.... to make it harder to screw up. Instead of a drop-down menu to select from (incorrectly).... ask questions & user must pick an A or B type answer.
"Are you selling or WTB?"... select selling
"Is it a vehicle or part?".... select vehicle
"What year is it?"... select year
"What make is it?".... select Porsche (or VW Brasil, VW Germany....etc)
"Is it coupe, convertible or roadster?"... select coupe
"Does it have a sunroof?".... sunroof
Auto-generated title for Porsche vehicle sales section = 1963 sunroof coupe
Don't even give people flexibility in ad title. Let them have that in the description.
Similarly, many online auto parts vendors have you perform this "drill down" task to search for the part.
Clarify if someone is selling the rear 90% of a 15 window bus... and they got it in S. America and don't know if it is Brazilian or German... it must be posted in a newly created "Split Bus General Parts" section. _________________ aka: Evan

Sounds good but people would still mess it up or pick the wrong thing.
It specifically says on the Place Ad screen right under the Title box:
"If this is a vehicle, please include year and type of VW. Example: 1965 Bug"
And people still leave it off.
There are TONs of people that don't know what model car they have from a knowledgeable VW person perspective or just straight up pick the wrong thing.

I believe I know what you are talking about - those are annoying and usually you have to go back and select all new boxes because they didn't put the part in the right section or in more than one section even though it applies to multiple areas they created. I usually end up just using their full search instead.
On Amazon.com they sort of have that where they have you pick your year and model... except it tells you certain parts don't fit your car. It's wrong.
The classifieds are not really bad on totally wrong categories, it's mostly parts in vehicles and vehicles in parts. Split Bus speedo in Split Bus Vehicles, for example. There could be some benefit to changing that somehow to prevent these sorts of issues. _________________ How to Post Photos

Now that I registered maybe I can start selling off some extra stuff to help with the engine project.
My problem is I don't know what the parts I have are worth in todays economy. Sometimes I don't even know what year/type the parts are for as I have been collecting junk for a long time.
Ive looked at some parts for sale an most look WAY expensive, are VW parts worth that much today? I sold some stuff at the Pomona and things went pretty quick so I think I was selling too cheap.
I am a member of another truck forums and they have a section called Whats it Worth, is there something like that here other than the forums which end up people yelling at each other? There are some guys just putting offer, can I do that so I don't get taken advantage of? Can I put a bid add in the ebay section and sell it to the highest posted offer in the thread? As a premium member is there a bid area?
I want to be fair in price but not just have some other guy turn around and sell the parts for more money.
Thanks! |

If you have specific questions about certain parts, you can start a thread asking what they are or what they are worth. A brand new thread just for your stuff. This is not a thread to take offers, it is a thread to identify parts or get people's opinions on current values.
We don't allow ads in the Forums so it's a fine line when you are asking about stuff you will be selling later.
You can list for Offer but most people hate that and you will often get low ball or joke offers ($1) or just a string of emails asking "how much?" even when it says Make Offer.
The ebay section is for ads on eBay so if you put something on eBay, you could list it there with a link to the auction. Sort of "free promotion" for your eBay ad(s). _________________ How to Post Photos

Thanks for the reply. I guess Ill start some "market value" threads and a few offer ads with a minimum listed and see how it goes. |
