As the restoration of my oval (http://tinyurl.com/55ragtop) is turning out to be very lengthy I've done a few side projects. Latest one I picked up from the E-bay Germany.
As found pic:
It is a '59 ragtop, diamond grey and has been of the road since 1978. The outside is very rough, inside and mechanics almost like new, an odd combo.
Updates on the car due to German regulation, the indicators became mandatory, so an "Electric" set was fitted.
All original engine, numbers seem to match:
Inside:
Lovely details left:
Ragtop:
The nose needs some serious attention, but as far as I can see at the moment it's just the bonnet, got a panel beater lined up to get it back in shape, along with all the other dents:
First job is to get rid of the nasty paint, but couldn't resist to clean the ragtop:
Looks like it's the original one, very happy with that.
Plans for this bug, mechanical overhaul, fit the WW Okrasa motor I've got laying around for the oval and drop it. Should be finished for the Volksworld show in March. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/BugpeopleNL

Poor thing. Looks like a very interesting start!
Make sure you get that trunk secured! If that comes up on you at speed it will ruin your day! _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

wow, what an incredible car, it's damn near perfect. you would have to be very very lucky to find a car like that from a dry place let alone in Europe.
are you planning to buff/clear coat it or just give it a heavy wax as is?
please keep us up to date with the progress. |

Small progress:
Steering wheel lock was forced open by the previews owner:
As the original ignition switch is still there I will remove the steering wheel lock, got a nice original bracket:
Everything back together:
I've also removed the Electric lights, I will get some snowflakes to replace them, very happy with the og wings:
Still lots of paint, removing it is proving the be extremely tedious..
Unfortunately the person who painted it did a proper job, and sanded down the rust before applying the paint.. don't know yet how to get the bare metal spots to blend into the patina.. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/BugpeopleNL

Every time I open this thread- I get a little more giddy about that car! I hate myself for selling a '58 sedan that color- I traded it for a middle seat for my '66 deluxe. _________________

I saw this car in the Ninove gallery on the airmighty website and my jaw hit the desk! I sold my matching numbers '59 a couple of years ago to help fund international study/moving to Norway (where I am now)
I also had a set of 15" Pacers that I had kept hold of since I was 19 as they were my all time dream wheels. They got stolen earlier this year. This is my dream car. One of my favourites I have ever seen.
I will take first reserve if it's ever for sale |
