Sorry I might have missed this detail, did you powder coat the chassis or rattle can it?

I'm pretty sure that's powder-coating. Rattle can paint wouldn't hold up very well on the pan.

We used POR-15 for the chassis. The underneath had been very heavily under coated probably by the dealership and was in very good shape, so we kept with that on the bottom and gave it a fresh top coat.

the padding in the rear quarter panel might hold moisture from condensation and cause problems. I'd be hesitant to put it in there.

We seem to have accomplished a good amount last week.

wrapped up the chassis work (for now, until we decide what to do with the suspension as far as ride height) rear brakes, shock front and rear. then this past weekend had a body lifting party and mated the body back up with its long awaited pan.
Finally!

Did you happen to have to motor in when you dropped the body on? I considering doing my 66 that way and was curious if it made it more difficult.

I did mine with the engine in and everything hooked up and tested before body went on. It's way better than doing all that with the body in the way.

Great Progress, but ive got a few suggestions.
1. Did you get rid of that urethane steering coupler and go back to a stock one? I made that mistake on my dune buggy and when it gives way, you have absolutely no steering, as compared to the original clothand rubber type, which still allow you to get the car outta the road ( safety)

2. That bowdens tube needs a curve in it

other than that, great job

johnr156 - No we didn't have the motor ready yet, although I wanted do it that way, we needed to move forward with the body to make room in our shop. We took the body off with the motor in that chassis so I imagine it would definitely be easy to put back, but you are probably right that its a tight fit trying to align it all back up...

It should be interesting when we have to jack the car up and slip the engine in from under the car, But I imagine since that's how people have done it for years it must be okay..

I'll let you know how it goes

So we are in the home stretch, but we are having some electrical issues.

When we apply the brakes the brake lights do this;

Left rear lights correctly, right rear lights correctly, but dim and the front right turn signal lights up....weird combination

I've checked the grounds and will recheck again.

Anyone ever have something like this happen?

Sounds like the right rear lamp is using the right front lamp as a ground via the turn signal or parking lamp wire.

Mukluk, that's exactly what was happening. Thanks for pointing me straight.

I ended up cleaning up all ground points on the rear taillights, much brighter and better.

Now if I can get a 9 pin flasher box to work, I've been through 3 used ones and no luck.

Has anyone updated their wiring configuration with newer flasher relays etc.?

Thanks in advance.

About rear brake:

Have you tried to put the upper spring upside-down? It is not symmetrical, now it is 'curved', if you turn it, so its arms are at top instead of bottom, you'll have it perfectly alinged with the equalizer bar, without bending.

I've figured out my shorting issue, turns out it was my right rear reflector. Although it is brand new, I saw a small area where the top bulb insulator was worn through. So I opted to put an OG that I just so happened to have that wasn't broken. Worked like a charm, 10 blown fuses later and after tediously going though everything on the turn signal switch...we are good to go.

Now I just need to get a good 9 pin flasher box that won't brake the bank, or I think I'm going to use a DPDT relay, it's not original but I think newer electrics have a time and place to be warranted.

So while the tank was out we cleaned it up and got some POR-15 on it. the PO apparently replaced the OG one probably when the front was hit with this one. The inside was pretty clean and not rusted so just needed cleane dup on the outside and put a new fuel outlet on.

Dake,

Thanks for the compliment!

It's gloss black POR-15. If you haven't used it before be very careful, cover your skin. It's very very thin and self levels very well.
