So next up is to finish up the front end. I am going to patch the fender wells where i had to cut to get the one piece front end to sit right, then i'm going to cut off and reweld the light tabs on the front bumper so the headlights will line up with the holes i have to cut in the hood. Then i'll be working on the rear fenders. After i get those sorted out, i need to get the dash put in.

The rims are worth what i paid for the car. They need to be polished up though, then they'll look 10 times better.

i cut a pattern out of cardboard and traced the sides then welded them in. I cleaned em up and primered as well. I plan on spraying the fender well area with that rubberized coating after i paint the car.

It almost looks like it did before i started, but now it has the dzus and no fender bolt holes. I think im going to cram a piece of foam in the top to keep
out dirt and shit and that way i can still have access to the dzus spring and door hinges if i ever need to fix them.

I got my front lights installed today. I originally bought the 7" empi baja headlights but they were just too big. So, i found a 6" motorcycle headlight meant for a harley davidson that fit much better. I also bought some 2" marker lights to use for the blinkers.

I got the rear fenders on and installed some nut rivets to hold the cowl on. Everything is getting prefitted and repaired so i can paint the car.

You may want to remount those rear fenders with the nut rivets up above the reveal line before you paint the car. Your rear tires look like they are going to hit the fenders as is and adding travel will cause trouble for sure.

I' m going with a smaller tire. These are 31x10.5. I'm planning on running 30x9.5. Is there a way to get the rear end completely bottomed out to check for rubbing?

I got some more stuff done on the baja. I built some seat rails for the Race Trim style seats that came with the bug. The seat covers were in bad condition and i got some new ones for my birthday Very Happy .

I made the pass side bracket different so that i could tilt the seat forward. I plan on having a back seat and dont want the kids to have to climb over.[/img]

I've been working on the inside of the car a little. I got it ready for paint and pre-fit my glass dash cover then sprayed it.

I finally got the engine case and parts back from Greg and Steve Tims. I got the case machined and full flowed. They opened it up for 94's. So, you guessed it, i'm building a 1914. Here's a list of what's going in it:

Tims stage 1 heads, polished and ported
ported manifolds
100 Engle cam
scat lifters
stock counter balanced crank
8 dowel lightened flywheel
solid rockers with swivel feet
new chromoly I beam rods
AA 94 pistons and cylinders
30mm oil pump
manton pushrods
new bearings, etc.

I cleaned up the case and put a light coat of paint on it

A friend of mine Sean, from Palmer's Aircooled, is going to help me build the motor. He built the motor for my 68 that's in my avatar. It was a stock 1600 and it runs and looks beautiful.

Alright, been awhile since i updated, but I have been busy. Sean and i got the motor short blocked finally and the next step is to long block it. Hopefully we will be able to get that going later this weekend. In the mean time i decided to paint the car. Most of the body work was done so all i had to do was prime and paint (much easier said than done).

I totally changed my mind on the paint scheme and went with more of a new age baja look. Here it is, let me know what you all think:

Masked off all the white, including pin striping

I've got a few more things to touch up and paint the rear fenders (black).

I used single stage because i originally had a different paint scheme in mind. It's best to use 2 stage base/clear if you're going to do any graphics/stripes because the clear coat will smooth out any tape lines. With single stage you get tape lines, but it's a baja so i'm ok with it.

Thanks for comments.

I decided to change the paint a little bit today. I didn't like the green scallops i airbrushed on, so i painted over them with silver scallops that i taped off. Here is a before and after:

I finished up the front end today as well. Painted everything and installed some new KYB gas adjust shocks. My plan for now is to paint both bumpers the same silver that is on the car. I don't have the rear bumper yet, so i'll wait til I get it and paint them both at the same time (probably, unless i get bored and need something to do).
