Here I am with my very first car during the mid-1970s, an FI 1968 Squareback. Back in the day, folks used to tell me it was a '67 due to the turn signals, but registration was for a '68. It was totaled during the early 1980s in Pomona CA when a drunken driver turned in front of me, causing me to T-bone his car. Drove it for a little bit, until I sold it and bought my 1959 ragtop bug ("the Mango", see below signature).
CA license plate 009 GVB.
Best,

Still looking for:
(1) My Dad's 1955 356 (he raced it amateur-class at Riverside and other courses during 1950s),
(2) My parent's black 1955 hardtop bug (CA license plate FWC 201 or FWG 201), and
(3) My parent's agave green 1957 ragtop bug (CA license plate LFK 734). |

Not a vintage photo. This car is original, 34,000 miles on it. I took this photo in Aug 2014 at a VW show in Joliette Quebec:

Here's a few more to add to the thread. I did find the dog in the trunk pic I was looking for. My wife likes Collies, and that one fits the bill.
Enjoy.

I thought the Type 3 convertible never made it past a prototype. But the pics show at least three of them in use in that parade. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Eddy Merckx, the greatest ever, in either 1966 or 1967 (when he was with Peugeot/BP). Since he's wearing the Belgian national jersey, it would be the World Championships road race. The '66 race was at the Nürburgring and the '67 race (which he won) was in Heerlen, Netherlands. The hilly landscape seems much more Nürburgring-ish to me, but I don't know, and I don't know what nationality the VWs license tag is.
I'm guessing that's not one of the prototype 1500 convertibles but that the 1500 was an easy car to convert to an open press/official car?
