im normally over in the ghia forums but i have gotten the opportunity to reassemble a 63 beetle. this is not my car. it belongs to a good friend of ours and he asked my dad and i to reassemble it. it came to us as a assembled shell on the pan and the rest of the parts in boxes. i have been going threw and sorting the bucket of bolts and boxes of parts. also making a list of parts needed. we did not take the car apart, so putting it back together should be fun.

I just finished assembling a 66 that I didn't take apart ;

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be........
Reading and referring to others build threads answered a lot of questions..
On the Wolfsburg West website they have great system drawings with parts labeled
Photos of specific question areas helped others help me ....

Recently went through this assembling a '61 Single Cab. I'm a Beetle guy and it was a total challenge!

Besides common automotive sense, your best reference next to a good Bentley manual will be other cars to look at.

I'd say head out to any local shows you can, take lots of reference photos and talk to as many people as you can with similar finished projects.

A good pictorial parts catalog (hint: Wolfsburg West's is pretty good) is another must have, as there will be lots of tiny details that pop up you never thought about.

thanks for the info on wolfsburg west. most of my vw experience is with late ghias and type 3s. with all the resources available i will get it put back together. it will be a slow process but i really enjoy doing it.

been making good progress. got the sound deadener glued down, dash pieces going in, figuring out most of the wiring hopefully and headlights mounted. motor was built by ovals motorsport and its a 1500.

yes i have. i got most the parts sorted but theres always that one little piece missing and have to dig around for it. also i have had bags of screws dumped out on the floor searching for the ones i need.

i have a question about bumper brackets. should the bumper brackets be painted black or silver like the over rider support bar? what would be the original color?

6 volt electrical is working great. got all the lights working. gas tank and wiper motor are in, also the drivers wing window.

got both the drivers and passengers door windows installed. hooked up fuel gauge and used shrink tube on the cable to make it look nice. also radio delete plate and glove box went in.

i need some help finding the right rear seat. i know the back portion i have is completely wrong. what years interchange for a 63 and how can i tell what is the right one? i think the bottom portion i have is too long, it measures about 52in with the seat cover on. can someone post some pics of a correct rear seat for a 63? thanks

Looks super sano Scotty! Nice job on the little details that make sooo much difference in the finished product Very Happy

One other thing I would do is get some of the left over paint and do some touch up perhaps using a small brush on the deck lid bolts.
The cars were painted once they were all put together and adjusted, so the bolt heads and washers should be body color too. Here's an original example...
