Had new ball joints and bushings done. Now there is gyration/trembling of the steering when braking and going 60 or higher. Back in shop now. Suddenly happened after work was done. What could this be? Thanks!! |

Hopefully just a bad alignment. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Just found out its a severely warped rotor. How can this suddenly come about after new ball joints and bushings?? |

Maybe they didn't torque the wheel? Or jacked the van up on the rotor end? I have found most radius rod bushings are pretty worn out and that may have upset the alignment when they pulled them off? _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

best case scenario, bad luck
worse case scenario they swapped your rotor for someone elses..
but possibly (*Idunno) reinstalling the rotor (*Idunno if/why) they have it adjusted too loose.
it's a PAIN when you are at the mercy of a repair facility
it's also a PAIN when you are your own mechanic and still have these unknown issues
(but they cost less)
less if you don't mind the time+aggravation+busted knuckles+sore back/knees+dirty hair + grease under your finger nails+time spent away from family/loved ones _________________

I bet it's actually your tyre pressure, alignment or both. It us possible to damage a rotor by torquing though.

I just had the same problem. Suddenly had steering wheel vibration when traveling over 65mph. Couldn't figure out what was going on. Took it to a good VW mechanic who couldn't find anything wrong but said that he noticed a very slight brake pedal pulse when first applying the brakes and said that was likely due to a slightly warped rotor. Replaced the front rotors and the vibration is gone.
Whether this could be related to your other repair, I can't say. _________________ 1988 Westfalia automatic Subaru OBD1

What was the reason you took the van in the shop in the first place? It is possible that the work performed exposed a problem that was already there. It may have not been noticeable before. |

If the suspension had a lot of slop, it is possible the vibration was not making it up to you at the steering wheel. Tighten up the front end and you will feel everything. _________________ ☮️ |
