Looking for ideas for a lift for the buggy
This is to do things like brake work and have it up high enough so I don't have to sit on the ground
Was thinking of getting a HF motorcycle table lift , but the rating is only 1000Lbs and I'm sure the buggy is a bit more than that
Lets see what you all use |

They have these for $1400
BUT Unless you're going to put about $1500 into a real lift, a floor jack and four jackstands is the way to go.

I have been looking for the sissor style on CL , but have not found it for less than $1000 and thats out of my budget
If I could find plans to build it I would go that way |

Yeah... One those projects to save money that ends up costing twice as much as purchased product and works about half as good...
Did a spread sheet once on building a 30 ton log spliter.... Ended up I could save about $300 by buying a factory made 32 ton...
Just buy good high lift jack and 4 good jack stands and a roll around mechanics stool... And storage is less a issues when not in use....

That statement covers a lot of items.
Cherry picker/engine puller
Engine stands
Saw horses
Sand blast cabinet
Tubing bender
and the list can go on.
A lift is nice if you get it dirt cheap, or you do this a lot. Otherwise, a nice jack and 4 high quality stands work nicely for a project. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

I understand the comments , and I have all those tools + plasma / welder / end Mill / dry cut saw
The Buggy barn is full , but you need the right tool for the job
If you run out of room you just build another place to work

If that is the case, a two post is the best.

I think the sissor is better than the 2 post , but both would work out side
I'm looking for something that I can use in my workshop so has to be under 8 ft
so looking to lift say 36- 48 inches

I used to have a portable lift that kind of resembled and worked like a forklift and was very portable .You rolled it up to the side of a car ,lifted the car ,and because I had a few sets of tall stands ,I could leave the car on the stands and move the lift to another vehicle .It lifted the bottom to about 6 foot or so ,which was not tall enough for me to get under the car ,but was fantastic for wheel ,brake and suspension work .Mine was a Ford Smith if I remember correctly ,or possibly a Blackhawk .It was very handy .Mine had a 12 volt pump ,so I used to haul it around on the back of my service truck if I needed to repair something on location .I would love another one for at home now that I sold my shop . |

I have a 3200 KG scissor lift which folded down was just under 4" off the floor. I then went one step further and cut it into the slab so it sits flush.
It is a great bit of gear and I would hate to be without it as I get older and fatter working on a lift is much nicer.

Now that I like! I am cramped on space not only to store stuff, but store tools and do not want things on my floor in the way. I just may look into doing this. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Brad,
The picture is a little dark but I think I can see that you must be able to prop the chassis up to remove the wheels. True? Can you get between the lift parts to the center of the car? How high will it go? This might be an option for me too.
What is the brand name?

Nah the picture is artistic lol I mean crap.
The lift has platforms and on those you put rubber blocks which sit under the body. The wheels hang over the edge and can be removed as per a usual 2 post config. In fact the rubber blocks are just like the contact pints on the two post setup. On a SWB Buggy you have to lift the front to clear the front wheels as the platforms are longer than the distance by an inch or so.
Brand is Summit and I got it in Australia but I am pretty sure they are over here under different brand names. It is an ST7130

Then I cut it in
