I want a set of those Simex tires he has on his van! They're not DOT approved for the US. Years ago I came this close to snagging a set through channels. Dang.

Nice work!

Good work. Love the way people and Vanagons come together during adversity.

I think those may be electric now. Probably wasn't working well after being under water...

I wonder what happened to the roof. Maybe the car floated a bit...

The e-brakes are never electric--you want a redundant system that works when the car is off, even without a battery. Let's say a car sits for a month, and the battery goes dead... you don't build cars with electric emergency brakes (unless the electricity is used to turn the brake off, not on--like compressed air on railroad brakes).

When winching out one may opt to leave the e-brake engaged on the target vehicle because if the car is in neutral and your winch fails, you don't have a car rolling uncontrollably. Safety.

Great video, though I cringe at the folks standing in the recoil range of the winch line. If it violently comes free of the load, or the winch hook pulls free of the load, someone could be killed by the flying hook, mount, or line. One short, nylon recovery safety strap added to the winch line might solve that problem.

Still, pretty awesome winch setup and nice guy who is solving problems.

I was thinking the same thing!

While watching about half way through, I was kind of (jealously) getting the "big shot with his syncro16 and a winch" attitude, then I watched him grind against the wall while he was winching through a hole in it. Redeemed!

That's my friend Simmo and his awesome TDi powered 16" Syncro!

His samba handle is "Silentbay"

We met by happen-chance in Sestri Levante Italy in October while my lovely wife and I were vacationing.

He let me drive that van, in fact insisted that I drive it! Woo hoo!

Not surprised to see him helping others, giving his time and using his sweet ride to be of service to others.

He hosts an Italian Syncrofest type event held in December and this is my favorite video of the year: http://vimeo.com/84949529

There's at least one exception - the Tesla S.
There's a story somewhere about a New York Times reviewer running down the battery and causing a nightmare to his tow truck driver.

It is a synthetic line. They dont twist around like metal when braking.

You can't fill up your feloniously lucrative repair bays with simple and foolproof. Complicated and delicate pays the bills.

Cool video!

I was wondering why the brake was on too and then I remembered this:

That said, no brake and someone in the vehicle ready to pull it might have been better. LOL
