|
|
This bus was purchased in circa 1965 by Reardon Plumbing and Heat as a refrigeration service bus.
It was used in the Elko Nevada and surrounding area until a major engine fail which lead to a small engine fire put it out of service in circa 1972.
It was traded in to Wright Motors Dodge dealership shortly after and sat in the back lot until 2011 when it was purchased by a local.
He posted it for sale here on the Samba where I quickly made a deal to take on the project.
This is where the bus started once I took possession and where it is now.
Sitting in Elko at the PO's shop
in my yard now
trans in
When i bought it, it had no (useable) decklid, apron, rear bumper, front seat, trans or engine. The wire loom in the engine compartment was damaged from fire.
this is where I am at now. It should be running soon and ready for the world famous Shasta Snow Trip.

Kind of interesting how the Logo's on the Drivers side are way more whipped than the Pass. side, very cool logo Panel !! _________________ Tom

yeah, I think it was the way it was stored all these years. im guessing the passenger side was up against a building or another tall vehicle.
logos are actually decals, which is a bummer in the logo bus world but still they are original 60s logos so im good with that |

Weeks turned into months.
Brakes plumbed. Wiring repaired and all the little things that go with reviving a bus that's been dead 40 years and missing a lot of stuff.
Got my mystery motor ready to go in and bleed brakes and she should be ready. |

Time does fly by !!
Love/hate the mystery motor deal. You keep telling yourself, I think this engine will be fine, all the while thinking, I'll be pissed if all this work is for naught... BTDT _________________ Tom

I have had a bad mystery motor before so I know what that feels like.
This one I bought off a friend. "Ran when pulled"
Trans is a mystery too. Same deal though.

Finally got some electricity flowing through it for the first time in 42 years!
Looks like my wiring loom repair was a success. headlight and tail lights work. Speedo and fuel gauge lights up with fresh 12v bulbs. both idiot lights work when grounded. Wiper motor works. need to fix horn wires.
Starter fires off with the key and the coil power is hot
The only thing im working on is converting the flashers to 12V
I got the brake cables hooked up and adjusted. so far thats all the brakes I have. the whole system is plumbed with fresh parts just gotta bleed.
I got the mystery motor set up with heater boxes and an NOS German stock muffler. Just gotta slam it in put some gogo juice in it and crank it.
Im slow but im chipping away at it
Cleaned up my interior too and started on the new (used) seat covers

It's alot more work and time than you think getting into freshing up that mystery motor. Finding missing tin (when you visit your tin stash you don't have the one that was missing), fixing rusty muffler pipes, cleaning/painting tin, re-torquing heads and case fastners, etc, etc.
I have a 1600 sp from a bay that I recently put out of it's rusty misery; it's been quite time consuming getting it together the way I want it. _________________ WANTED:

luckily mine was pretty clean and was pushing my friends Oval down the road a couple years ago before he built a 36er for it. I just had to ditch the J tubes and put the right exhaust on it and change the breast plate out. Im not a fan of the bling trinkets on it but ill worry about that later |
