|
|
I have a 74 type 3 square back. After reving the engine, I get a rattle noise, like fan is loose. I tightened pulley ( all spacers in place), flywheel is tight and has proper end play...Just not sure what this is. Anyone have an idea???
Greatly appreciated

Heat shields on the muffler often crack and will rattle at a resonant frequency. |

Type 3 production ended mid July 1973. 1. August 1973 was the beginning of the 1974 model year. There was never a '74 Type 3 made, sorry. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

If its really a type 3, have you checked your inner fan? They wear out over time and can cause the rattle you seem to describe. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

This is a 74 sqbk. (Variant) typical of the 71 to 73 model. Registration and pink say same with 1 owner.
The the subject of a worn fan, how can I identify what is worn ? All was tight when installed. Thanks again |

The inner fan has a rubber bushing that acts as a damper and its held together with rivets. Over time it wears out and rattles. Im not really sure there's any way to permanently fix a worn out fan, just try to find a good used replacement.
My brother (Turbomicrowaves) recently had his cooling system apart and tightened the rivets by hammering on them, you might PM him and ask him what exactly he did. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

What are the first digits of the VIN? It's probably a late '73 registered based on the date of sale, not the year of manufacturer. |

Threaded holes for fan removal. There was a post on noisy fans as well as fan disassembly not too long ago. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

The part number you asked about for the fan is
311.119.105E
or
311.119.105G (Hub 0.5mm oversize) _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]
