Got the buggy back yesterday! Had a roll cage fabricated that would provide some protection for the kids in the back seat. It's pretty tall... but it does provide the safety the wife needs .. and with harnesses for the kids too.

I had to quickly redo the rear seat... shave a little off the bottom and re-did the back.... made it quite a bit higher. We're going out to AZ next week and so last night I made this.
It will do for a while until the next project... adding some speakers and Miata seats... |

Hi,
I am in the same situation. But honestly, this is not a buggy anmore. As safe as it is supposed to be, there must be more subtle options to ensure protection without destroying the lines and looks of such a wonderful thing. _________________ '73 Beach Buggy

Buy a SUV kidlett hauler.... I personally never considered rear area behind seats as a "passenger area" to me it is a "package tray".... But that is just me... Other option is true 4 passenger "sand car" (long wheel base) type machine....

I think buggies are for every builder to do it there way. I do like the lines of this cage and the work man ship is great. Keeping your kids interested is way more fun. IMO.
I do like two seater better but my kids are all gone. |

I hear you... it definitely changes the look a lot. But... for me it was either don't have a buggy or do something to make the buggy safe enough that the rest of the family would let me keep it . And I wanted to have a buggy.
I'm sitting in a chair in a campsite in Tucson... took the buggy on a dirt road in Saguaro National Park yesterday and had a blast. Beats the hell out of an SUV kid hauler ... |

Wow. A FIVE place buggy? Never seen that. Looks like you are having some good desert fun, and if the cage helps more of you enjoy the fun, who cares what it looks like... |

What, women always being cold? Way to keep the family interested, safe, and happy. Good job, you can always modify it in the future if it suits you better then. |
