Hi there. New to the forum, so I thought I'd kick off with a question about wheel sizes. I'm looking at fitting a set of 17"x 7" Rader wheels to my 55 Oval window. Can anyone tell me if a 17x7" will fit on the rear, without any mods (except 1 notch lower)?
I believe I'd need a narrowed front beam to fit the 17x7's on the front. If so, whats the minimum I'd have to narrow the beam? I'm not keen on having a radically narrow front end. My car currently has 2" dropped spindles fitted which push the stock wheels out enough for them to scrape on turning.
Thanks in advance. |

I thought about doing a staggered setup on my '55. 17x7 in rear and 15x7 in front. I know this has been done in the hot rod world for many years and has been done some (but not alot) in the VW world. Seems as though the 17's are less of a hassle to fit in the rear and by doing the 15x7 its less of a pain for the front. Gives it a nice rake look too, but at the end of the day its all about what look you're trying to achieve. I ended up just doing 15x7 all the way around and was able to use the tires that were on my oval when i bought it so it made it easier.
