the ends you show plug into the steering column switches: Turn signals high/low beams and windshield wipers. No brainer at that end. The other end goes to all kinds of places. Get a VW manual with colored wiring schematics and you got a good chance to figure it out. good luck |

The plugs you showed (in your hand) slide into the steering column connectors. They can go into them only one way. All the switches in the column are held captive. Look up into the back side of that large black housing that holds your ignition key and you will see the matching prongs staring back at you. You will need to be on your back looking up. They are toward the driver door side. |

im not good at electric at all, but i started a project and well.. here we are
i rewired the car, new fuse box , ignition, lights etc
if i figure out where these last couple wires go and i think ill be roadworthy
all i see is lines and little numbers. i wired as close to the schematic as i could, but its not line for line. |

To repeat, where exactly are you lost? Still on the lights or just the wiring in the trunk? _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia, the Dragon slayer.... |

here is what you do..
write down on a piece of paper what wire colors you have
EXAMPLE ~
Green
green/black
black
black/white
and so on..
then open up this page - zoom in on the diagram and chase them. Or save the image and do the same - you could even open it up in paint and white out all the crap you don't need.
really this procedure shouldn't be as hard as you are making it, wiring on a Volkswagen is pretty straight forward compared to other stuff - figure it out.
as much as I would like to break out my colored pencils and draw it for you, i'm afraid I will not. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

If you want to half ass it to get yourself roadworthy, and then figure out how to properly do it and read the diagram - here is what you do.
run two wires to the rear
run two wires to the front
connect the wires to the turn-signal bulbs on left and right sides
THEN
get a two prong flasher relay - junkyard or something
run a wire from the fuse-box, off of an ignition(Use a test-light to figure it out)
run the fuse box wire to one side
connect another wire to the other side
run the other wire TO THE 12v PART of a toggle switch
THAT will flash the switch thus causing your lights to flash
NEXT
run your left front and left rear to one side of the switch
run your right front and right rear to the other-side
ground the switch
WOW - fully functioning turn-signals
if that isn't simple than I don't know what is _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

maybe if i narrow my question i can get some patience.. its an overwhelming project and i probably bit off more than i could chew, but im almost road worthy
on the harness to the left, are wires to a ground, relay and ?
the black striped ones go to the bulb, i got that much but im not sure which are +/- relay
in person they all seem a little brownish, but im tryin to understand which wire is which
thanks for the help |
