I'm in. This will be a great incentive to finish my car for her inaugural trip and public unveiling. I had to put the restoration on hold because of my wife's battle with cancer. Our hopes were to bring her and her first car to a show. Sadly, she lost her battle last week and has gone home to be with our Savior. My promise to her and myself in her honor, is to finish the car and complete our plans to go to these events. |

Very sorry for your lost. I had the pleasure of restoring a Thing for a couple that the wife of 34 years thought she would not see the car done. The car came to my house and she asked if I could get a glove box door done for her husband thanking him for all the years. Instead both husband and wife were surprised on Christmas day by a newly painted car. I was sent pictures of her in tears with joy. Best Christmas gift I received. She passed a few months later. The car lives in Middletown Ohio. |

Another location we might think about is Featherly Park. Right on the Orange County/Riverside County border it is fairly central to all of Southern California. I went to the Orange Empire Bus Club (OEBC) show there earlier this year. The location was very VW friendly and the shade was nice.

Another option for a great photo shoot and maybe a show is the West coast version of the 2006 Kubel Treffen. On the West end of Route 66 are the Wigwam Village Motels in Rialto Ca. The neighborhood is so-so, but they are tee-pees!

Another option to consider, if we plan the event in April is the Pomona show & swap is Sunday the 19th. If this is a whole weekend event (Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday) maybe we could meet up in the VW section at Pomona on Sunday morning?
or set something up at the NHRA Museum (also at the Pomona Fairplex) to meet and maybe display a few Things.

Thanks, Jim. Great ideas. We are looking at locations near the Beach. I like the camp grounds, but agree with Ron, the location needs to have a hotel. Going to Pomona Swap would be fantastic. Because of the time, I hope we can get everything together by April. but we may need more time to plan. More info to come soon... Thanks everyone! _________________ 1970 Bug (Das Rod)

A camp area is great but not for a show. I bet 90 % of the people that has came to a show don't camp. Keep in mind this is a show with a little driving on roads. It's great to have a get together and I have put on many weekend drives but this is a show. |
Is there a chance for a swap meet as a part of the show?
Just asking. _________________ L'audace! L'audace! Toujours l'audace! |

Over the years we have welcomed parts vendors but there are very few that sell Thing only parts. In the past if you had a large amount of parts we sold you a spot. If you had a couple parts it was OK to put them by your car. The vendors that has came and only had regular VW parts didn't do well at all because what they had to sell were the common parts that fit Beetles that we can get anywhere. Lets see what Eric wants to do. |

Hey .... how about Kubel Treffen "Way" West ..... I'm sure Matson would offer a group discount. You did want to be near a beach. We're surrounded by beaches! |

Not that I have a dog in this, but there are alot of good shows in April in Cali. The spring fling in Madera is and has been a favorite of mine for some time now. We usually get a large in flux from socal and norcal at this one. 300 plus cars. For a good turnout, not conflicting with other dates is a good idea. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,
