I ran into Stuart on the street Monday while I was unloading my Vanagon. He tossed me a card and told me to check this out.
What kind of communications are you envisioning for this ride? I have a 2 meter ham radio, call sign is KG7RTZ.
In any case, it should be fun and most definitely interesting. |

we will be running channel 2 on our CB radios, although ham would be much more effective over long distances....CBs are easier for the normal person to get and operate.
Nice to meet you! add your name and vanagon to the list when you get a chance! _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

I've made my reservation for the 5th at big pines. I'll be in spot #23.
Now just need to find a place and/or method to meet up with the traveling group... |

Sorry . That looks nice...but I had already made my reservation....
Maybe we can meet up with group at or near th Ellensburg KOA campground sometime on the 6th? It's at Thorp Hwy and the I90?
Or better....at the fork of Umptanum Rd where the trail forks? South of Ellensburg?

Someone needs to get a Facebook group going on this....a event page....
I would actually vote spend the night as most people who can't do the whole week are planning on joining in ellensburg, for the weekend trip to portland.
As for camping at the river camground, that's a great idea, but I just realized, I think we will have to drive back north in the AM to hit the trailhead, can someone correct me if I'm wrong on that?
Still down to camp at the campground, unless I end up having to pay in which case I'll sleep on the trail _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Im not a face booker, hopefully we can keep info flowing here in this thread.
Thursday meet up in Ellensburg with an afternoon departure to the trail head then makeing camp somewhere down the trail sounds good (less campgrounds). Maybe plan to meet at the campground mentioned earlier and post a "leave the campground" time along with a "meet at trail head(directions)" time for straglers and a "final departure" onto the trail time thursday afternoon? |

Still debating whether I should make the trip out for this or stick around Colorado for a local campout. If I'm able to sell the '79 Westy that I just picked up for a decent price then I should be able to make the cruise out to WA. _________________ '77 Westy 2.0L FI

Local campouts happen all the time, all year long. This sounds like an EPIC bus/van wagon train that will make for several hundred campfire stories! |
