Don't have any way to do it, but will weigh the whole thing with a full tank of gas when I am done. Think I am gonna put it on the chassis dyno too and see what the stock motor puts out, then when I build a new one will be able to see the gain. |

You can do it with a bathroom scale, weight the front end the the back separately with a 2x4 or something spanning the two heater channels so the scale can be in the middle. Add the two together and you'll be close to the total weight _________________ it's more fun loud and dirty |

Well I am a bit stumped, trying to figure out how to fab up a mount to make a flip front end. Little more to Iit then I first thought not to mention will it clear like i want.....
so far I have two chevy big block wrist pins and a length of 3/8 steel rod to make a hinge or pivot, and can weld the up to some plate that will sandwich and bolt through where the front license plate goes. Then weld the bar to the bumper and the wrist pins to the plate so it can pivot. But then need to account for head lights, right now they were hard mount behind the cut outs but think they will need to mount to the hood and pivot too. Guess I can make them work some how like that. Also then comes the issue of how to make it removable?? Guess i could just unborn the plate and take the hood off if need be..
anybody got any ideas to help me along? |

Proof of concept....
leaves just enough room to sneek in through the fender to work on stuff, but hits the bumper, so options are live with that, extend the bumper about 4" or abandon the flip front..... |

Im not a big fan of forward-tilt hoods, they are not user friendly IMO.
However if you really want it I would instead mount the hood to the bumper and make the bumper and hood pivot. You will need some fairly precision work and pins to lock/isolate hinges down for bumper impact situations but it will keep the look and hood functionality your looking for. It will make your bumper less robust but you'll get your tilt hood and keep your approach angle. _________________ it's more fun loud and dirty |

Thanks, I want the bumper as strong as it can be so decided I will add 3" more to the bumper and the hood will then clear and work much better. I slid the rod back 3 inches and clamped it to test this and it works like I want and the gap between the bumper and hood looks fine too. Was afraid it might look gooeybut ddon't really look much different than it did.
Also worked out that the lights will be fine hard mounted the hood goes forward and up from where the lights are, so should be perfect. |

Well went with a 4" extension figured it would be eaiser to cut an inch out than add one in.
way more room than before and I am happy with the bumper spacing, makes room for a winch or something later. Still gotta fab up the spare tire mount and see if I am able to sneak the battery in there somewhere. |

I just got harrassed today while "shopping" for tubing at the steel yard because they were wondering how all the metal I've been buying over the last two years has gone into one buggy.
Did you think about moving your hinge point up off the bumper a few inches to make the hood pivot at a higher point and therefore further away from the bumper? You'd have to make two new holes in the sides unless you could figure out a way to run the bracket out of the middle instead of the sides of the bumper... _________________ Brian H.

Oops, got it at the right height and it pivots great. Welded a wrist pin on each side but must have got something just a hare off......now I can't get the rod out! It is stuck like chuck at the moment but hood pivots fine. I could unbolt the plate to take the hood off but that is not how I want it to work and would require cutting slots in the fiberglass.
gonna keep trying to get it out for a bit then sand it down till it slides in like i want. But if not successful then will just weld it up and cut slots. |

My tilt front clip hinges
Mine has most of the license plate recess cut away, but as you can see, the top horizontal part is still there. You could still attach to the same spot you already have if you changed the hinge to similar to mine. The pivot point is right behind the bumper cross tube, which puts the pivot still quite a bit forward of where yours is. The cross tube of the hinge is 3/4" x .065 tube with tabs welded to the tube for bolts to attach the hood to the hinge.
One of the issues you are facing is the double cross tube of that bumper. Having the pivot that far forward, means that the fender at the headlight opening moves vertically before it arcs forward. I moved my headlights forward to clear the tires. But my 10+ inches of wheel travel moves the tires up and forward much farther than your ball joint could ever do. Because of that up-then-forward arc of the fender, I cut away the fenders below the headlight openings.
It would be good to have some sort of support to keep the hood from blowing closed. _________________ Richard

Crap didn't really account for tire clerance of the headlights. Just looking at it I think iwill be ok though.
Had no luck getting the bar out so gonna finish weld it in place and just go with it, at least it is nice and tight so don't gotta worry about it flopping around any. Working on spare tire mount now. |

Quick test fit of my 930 CV's to see angle and clerance, even with the magnetic dohickey for the hall effect sensor on the speedo all seems just fine. Max down angle of 22* and has plenty of float left in the axle.
pay no attention to the boots they are not banded down yet and way out of place. |

Got my dzus fasteners in today but they are to short won'twork at all, need to figure out what to get now. Think they need to reach about a half inch and these are maybe 1/4" deep reach. |
