I'm looking to new wheels for my buggy. Seems that all the normal VW retailers (cip1, Mid America etc..) all carry the same stuff. Where have you guys bought your rims from? Thanks |

What are you looking for.... Wheels are wheels..... IF you want wheels like you find on a Chevy or Honda and can't find the design in wide 5 or 4 lug VW size get wheel adapters.....
There are dozens of design out there, if you want old school look that is no longer in production, go to ebay or classified or Craigs list.....

Hi ratrog,
Dale is exactly right on all accounts. If you want more specific advice, it would be helpful to know what lug pattern(s) you have, and what size tires you plan to use. _________________ Gary David Holbrook

Go to summit racing and look at the chevy lug pattern wheels ( 5x4.75 ) there are 9000 wheels to choose from and 2000 options just in 15" wheels. The prices range from $45 to $1200 per wheel. I have always been a fan of going to the chevy pattern for the options and the price.
these are the alloy wheels I bought from summit for about $95 each The adapters for the wide 5 to chevy cost me $40. The same style wheel in the wide 5 pattern is $220 each from summit. I bought 2 of these solid alloy wheels and adapters for basically the same price as one wide 5 wheel.
Adapters are not always a good option depending on what your doing with your car but you can buy drums with the Chevy pattern and still be less money that a nice set of wide 5 wheels
The basic steel wheels in wide 5 with white powder coat are still $55 every day of the week but the cheapest alloy or custom wheels start at $150 and go up. And there are very few options. For some reason the 4 bolt is even more expensive and less options.
Go chevy!!! IMHO _________________ skill comes by the constant repetition of familiar feats, not by one over bold attempt at a feat for which the doer is yet poorly prepared |

+1 for converting to Chevy pattern drums in the rear and adapters up front. Chevy pattern drums are not readily available for the front (although blank front drums for ball joint front ends can be special ordered and custom drilled/studded). I'm running Chevy pattern adapters up front, and this combo allowed me to choose the wheels I wanted (including the backspacing, width and diameter) rather than simply settle for one of the few selections available for the 4-lug VW pattern.
If my buggy had the 5-wide pattern, I would have probably gone with a set of widened smoothies and classic domed VW hub caps, which is a great look in my opinion. |

New Center Line Wheels in wide five are still being made as are the Ultra Mag. The traditional Ansen aluminum slot is being re-popped in the wide 5 pattern too. BTR makes a cool looking wide 5 rim as does Race Trim. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
