My 1985 VW Golf is not putting out any heat from the heater. Well, very little heat at best. In a attempt to fix it, I have replaced, the heater hoses, heater core, two main radiator hoses and thermostat at the water pump. Do these things need to be bleeded? The fan works and puts out air, but it is lukewarm at best. I am not sure what to try next. I might pull the return line to make sure the core is not blocked. The hose from the engine to the heater core is hot and hard, but the return is not. And it is a new core. Any ideas?

I don't have an answer but i am having about the same problem with my '92 jetta. Old heater core blew so put in a new one as well as a new thermostat and new coolant. Anything below 30 degrees outside and it gets cold in the car. I don't understand what it could be

I think I found the answer. The foam on the control doors have disintegrated. This leave hole in the doors and bypasses the heater core. I found this video on YouTube. I am going to try just putting some duck tape over the holes. I don't think I am going to the trouble to rework them. Here is the link:
