Nice DannoT! Did you make that ladder? My 66 is a 13 Window as well. Did you camper out the interior? That is what I am doing to mine. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

I made the ladder out of 20 bucks worth of square tube and pine dowel, its not much to look at but pretty functional. I did a semi custom interior that looks (stockish) but sleeps two comfortably while camping.

Nice! Good job on the ladder. I picked up one of those telescoping ladders, as they are compact and I can use them on/in any of the VW's.
I am doing a custom camper interior in the 66 as well. Wish it would warm up so I could start on it...
I just noticed that high lift jack mount. What is that made out of? I am looking to make one that I can adapt to each bus/Vanagon, which all have racks of some sort. Could you PM a close up photo of it? _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

I edited the main post and changed the dates. The new dates will be 7/31-8/2. I have yet to hear back from pb24ss, kooldub , Stuartzickefoose and marklaken. Stu I know this is close to your event in Washington and I'm sorry about that. I do hope you all can make it.
Thank you all for understanding.

The water crossings should be a lot lower in August. I found this pic on the Inter-web taken in early September. This is the deepest crossing that Danvw posted on the 1st page.

Thanks for making the adjustments to the date Rich. This should make the "scary stuff" more manageable and get some fence sitters on board. Snow packs are very high in the Sangres already, the heavy months of March and April are still to come. This may give me enough time to bring the "Wolf" my 58 trail bash splitty. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

These dates are be much more amenable. It does fall in the middle of my work week but I'll see if I can save a few days of PTO and hit the trails. _________________ In search of a Vanagon

This is fine with me, as now I don't have a planned trip to CA bumped against this trip.
BTW, wanted to ask you all a question. A buddy of mine, here in Taos, would like to come along but he does not have a VW. He would be driving a Toyota Tacoma 4x4, which might come in handy. Any thoughts? _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

Sure, its a public road after all! I would like the VW's to "flock" together however..for photo purposes if nothing else. Would he be down to carry a small compressor and genny? That way I don't have to live with it in the Bus? OR.. sell him a Bus before the trip so he can really enjoy the event. I'm good with a support vehicle in any case. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

He would, I am certain. Not going to sell him on a bus, but he is a car guy, manager of one of our local FLAPS who has helped me out many times in finding parts, and one hell of a nice guy! He is a mud bog racer also, but loves to camp, explore and his Tacoma would be a good broom wagen. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." I'm a little late to the thread but now that the dates have been changed I will be able to go! I live in the San Luis Valley but have never made it over to medano. A buddy of mine that isn't on thesamba was planning on taking his '71 Westy as well. Here is the rig that I will be taking:

I always get envious of pics like these. Fla. offers nothing like this. My brother lives outside of Denver. Maybe one day.... Have fun people. |
