My daughter has a squareback that we are restoring, and it runs really good, however the idle is high. I have seen mention of an adjustment for this, but I dont have a manual to see where it is. If anyone can help me on this I would appreciate it.

TIA
Don

It's on the intake air distributor, right where the neck from the air cleaner joins it:

Loosen the locknut and turn the screw to adjust. But make sure your engine is at operating temperature first, and only after everything else (timing, valves, point gap, etc.) is already set. The idle is the last thing you do.

She has had it for a while, but not driving it all that much. It had been leaking tranny fluid so when I replaced the tranny pan gasket, I noticed it was leading gas as well.

I fixed the gas leak, and I have a feeling that now it has more fuel pressure which is causing the idle to be higher?

Thanks for the photo, it is really helpful. I will give that a try and see how it runs. Now I just have to fix.

You Need this brown Bentley manual for the fuel injected car & the automatic transmission! Post a WTB ad in Type 3 Parts for sale if you need any parts.

I adjusted the idle by ear (I dont have a strobe) and it ran great at idle and low RPM's, but at higher RPMs, it bogged.

When it was idling high, it ran fine at all rpms, probably needs a complete tune up because it seems like the advance is not functioning properly.

I do need to get one of those manuals..

You don't need a strobe when adjusting the idle speed -- you need a tach (I use a tach/dwell meter).
Yes, you need a complete tune up first, and the idle is the last thing to adjust in that process. Get a manual, do some reading on here, and ask questions. Don't guess, it usually makes things worse. Smile
