I read the manual recommended oil is full synthetic, 5-30 or 5 -40 VW 507 00 / acea a3, so I am confused I read all the oil specs at the store and where is no mention of a VW 507 00 spec/ acea a3,,,,,,so the question is what should I buy?????? Is Castrol full sythetic 5-30 work?

Don't know much about new TDI diesels but I do know one thing for sure DON'T USE ANYTHING NOT APPROVED BY VW . It can void your warranty . I work in an Advance store and I've heard some scary warranty stories involving VW . I think they use MOTUL oil . Try searching that name .

Can't say specifically. I know it needs to meet a low ash specification. This is really important for your emissions system, mainly the diesel particulate filter.
I'd ask around over at tdiclub.com for a definitive answer.

A link and a pic for those that might need VW TDI oil. kinda strange they put a dye in the oil to ID as authentic VW spec , it pours with a hint of Gatorade green

I can tell you that may be spec but its NOT what my two dealers used for any of my 3 included oil changes.

This post is so important, I will repeat it.

And VW comes under fire for stuff, but here they are right. The VW specialty shop I have been going to since 1988 stocks countless (they don't even know the number, but said "yes" to probably being over a dozen) different oil to meet whatever car's specs they are dealing with. We don't own a '13 TDI so I don't know the answer. I'm not sure about Tiguan but all of our cars used different spec oil before its purchase.

Using the right oil is vital. Getting it specifically from the dealership may not be vital. It isn't with any of our cars.

The oil in the link was purchased at the dealer just to avoid any mistakes and protect my interest in our platinum warrentee I buy maintenance items from the dealer , and oddly engh so far dealer cost on filters is less than local after market cost and the oil in the link I could not find anywhere but the VW dealer.

Your Passat uses urea/adBlue correct? That would explain the different oil. Golf and Jetta rely solely on DPF, no urea.
