So - before I have the bushings in my front beam removed for powder coating - where can these be purchased? Are there any repros made?

Do you want to keep it original? The urethane would work and no reaming?

I would like to keep it as original as possible. Wasn't aware there was a urethane option.

I would prefer to find NOS or repro bushings... or know I have an option before mine get removed and possibly broken before I remove them with no turning back.

I used these on my oval. They say no reaming involved but once pressed in they were too tight on the torsion arm so I machined the OD down on the lathe till I had a good fit on the torsion arm. It was a pain to do but it worked.
I wish someone would make a proper fitting bushing for early cars and the owners who want to go back to original.

Well, since WW has confirmed they are indeed getting more stock in...
Where do I buy the special reaming tool to put them back in?

Anyone have a VW tool # VW 274a laying around? Laughing

Char, if you can get it for a decent price I will buy it off you when I'm done your bushings. I love collecting old VW tools. Cool

Do it once and do it right. By bushings from a quality retailer like WW, and have a good shop do the work.

If you want a more up to date material, the Porsche guys use Derlin bushings.

BTW, I couldn't believe the amount of slop in my bushings.

Cheers,

Paul

Is this tool for reaming the bushing or the actual torsion tube? Trying to get a visual grip on this.

It's to ream the bushing for the beam where the arms go in.

CharBugLady

This looks like a job for a machine shop. I'm guessing the shop will bec1/10 the cost of the tool alone, despite the cool factor.

The tool is a lot more than expected. We'll see... Looks like I'll likely do urethane as $400 for some bushings is seeming a bit crazy!
