I bought a new stock 73 dual exhaust a couple months ago.It is the Dansk duel muffler. It came well primed so I cleaned it and coated it with Rustoleum 1200 degree exhaust paint. It held up for awhile until rust started to form on the surface. The paint did not peel and the rust is easy too wipe off but it keeps returning in different places. Is anyone using something better to prevent this as I think it is stupid to have to keep at it this much to maintain it.I live in eastern Canada where we get rain etc. and not alot of hot,dry weather.I read where one guy wipes his down with WD40 but wouldn't it be a hazard to use it on a hot exhaust.Any help would be welcomed.

Wd 40 will help prevent rust, oil will also work, both will smoke and stink but will turn into a rust proof coating after a while. Jet hot coating, very expencive but lasts! Use on my FV exaust. Stainless steel again expencive and no thing exhausts onarket that I know of in SS!

I use the BBQ paint that they sell and have not had any problems with it. It has been on my 74 exhaust for 8 months and is still the same with no rust. But I do live in the High Desert in CA.

I used hammerite heat paint (or equivalent oxirite in silver color) with decent results.

It's not a definitive solution but will keep your muffler protected all winter

My headers are Jet Hot coated, however some of my friends use peanut oil with good results. Is this a problem if you're allergic to peanuts?

I have the same exhaust system. I had a ceramic coating put on and no issues. Certainly more expensive, but figured with what I paid for the exhaust, I didn't want them to rust.

Plus living in Colorado, we barely know what rust is Smile

i tried the 2000 once. my experience was the the exhaust never got hot enough to properly heat set the ceramic paint and it didn't adhere well. I would use bbq paint if I were to do it again

This is how a Bugpack exhaust with their ceramic coating looks like with 21,000 miles and 4 years of use winter and summer use. All I do is give it a little chrome polish every couple of weeks
