Glad to hear of the safe and enjoyable journey and hope that engine problem is easily resolved.
A good friend of mine lives in Eugene. I hear it's real pretty up there.
We're planning a week long road trip next summer up the Northern California and Oregon coast and we might swing through there on the way back. He's a real good fiddle player, so I can't pass up the opportunity to stop in and jam with him _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

Shhhh dont tell anyone!. I have been all over the country at different points of the seasons and I do like it here. Each area offers its own splendor and suits each individuals needs but the NW keeps me happy.
Give me the heads up before your trip and if you need any help along the way or recomendations along the coast let me know. Maybe by then the wife will have the Uke down and she can woo you with her mad 4 string |

Well now you know. Sorry to hear about your luck, but bright side you made it home. You could be posting this 1300 miles from home. Welcome to Vanagon ownership. You are about to learn a ton about your new purchase. _________________ ☮️ |

BWWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!
As long as I don't come out of this smelling like patchouli oil and start twisting my clothes with rubber bands and dunking them into colored water, I will be ok |

Drove to Washington yesterday and picked up the new long block Frankenengine. Dropped the core engine off and Ken agreed....not a "new" engine with 20,000 miles as advertised. Ken is a great guy with a TON of Suby and VW knowledge. His life passion seems to be VW from air cooled bugs, waterboxer powered sandrails , vanagon conversions (several platforms) and camping in his bad azzzzzz syncro. Super cool guy and knows his way around a machine shop! I spent more time hanging out than I did driving up and back!
I think I broke a few land speed records on the way home trying to get to Miles shop before he left. Not open on Saturdays but was meeting me there to unload the long block so he could get started on it early Monday. I made it just in time!
My co pilot has been an 8 time vanagon owner but is currently non op. He hasnt owned one for several years and after 8 he says he probobly wont see #9 anytime soon. Hes a wealth of knowledge and a great road trip partner.
All 3 of these guys are what sets the VW community high up on the freindly cool peeps pedastal. They all 3 come from different backgrounds, ages and parts of the Northwest but share a common bond that is Volkswagen. I dabble in classic Chevy's, Hotrods,Harley's and although these groups have thier "good" and friendly people, its nothing like the VW community I have rediscovered after 2 decades of being away from.
I cant wait to drive the van after a 4 week hiatus. The first 4 days were great, this 4 week down time thing has been a bummer and expensive! The "add to cart" button is killing me

As much as the world has changed in the 35 years since I owned a Bus, it feels like three centuries to me. |

IT'S ALIVE!!!!
Cruised around town last night varying the rpm so the rings will break in properly. Dropped it off at work and plan on installing as many things that the UPS truck has dropped off while the van was down as I can tonight and tomorrow before noon. Gonna load up the dogs and head to the beach for the night. I heard there is a gathering in Astoria for an anti superbowl weekend. Hoping to check out some ideas others have come up with and meet some good folks.
Engine runs suuuuuper smooth, no leaks, no smoke etc. Tons of power from the Frankenmotor off the bottom, will be a great low speed off road set up. Just hope the cv's last awhile as stop lights have now become GO lights taking the long winding road to the coast so im not holding it at a constant speed for break in and changing the oil Monday after the coast trip. |

Congratulations! Ooooh, could it be dual break-in trips for our vans? I get my Syncro 16 eTDI back today, although I'm debating using it for the weekend since it is so fresh, and it is a long drive from Snoqualmie to Oregon coast for UN-superbowl (I don't think it is an anti-superbowl thing)
I'll either be in my pre-runner westy, or i'll be in the big blue whale named Humpy. Find me and say hi, and congrats again on your newly running money-pit _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Lookin' good! A RMW side ladder will make life really easy accessing your new Yak rack. _________________ 1990 Multivan - "Ohana"

RMW makes great stuff and they are awesome on the phone. Good group of guys!
As much as I love thier gear, a side ladder on the trails in the NW would be cleaned off in no time. I like the spire or boat ladder that GoWesty does off the back and will fab something similar to run back there and keep it out of harms way.
.
Here what I did tonight. RMW swings , tinted the tail lamps and installed Toyota bulbs. I also mounted some wide beam cree led pods and tagged the black/green reverse wire. With the tinted windows and tinted tail lamps, the stock reverse had no chance. With these its like daylight. Im building a diode and tagging another feed wire off the backside to run up to the dash for a switch next to my front light bar(s) so I can operate the rear flood, side flood (still yet to come) and the light bars independantly and not have to put it in reverse to allow the rears to come on.

What kinda trails are you planning on attempting via 2wd? Nothing more than I hit in my 2wd with TBD here in NorCal I assume? I guess you can climb up the back ladder and over the top to the front of the rack. I prefer the central access of the RMW ladder and have never had concern for ripping it off on trails, fire roads etc. It doesn't stick out any further than stock mirrors. So if you haven't lost your mirrors you won't lose your ladder. Either way, it's your van and it's looking good! _________________ 1990 Multivan - "Ohana"
