Oh won't somebody think of the children!

Laughing

Cool car daddy, I would have killed for a bug like that at 18!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Let me see if I get everyone's questions covered.

Suspension is static drop but we raised it about an inch and a half after those pictures were taken which were from the PO. All the work was done by the PO which was all done very well. It is a tranny raise. Future plans which need to be done before my son starts driving it are replacing the wipers, getting the horn hooked up, front turn signals, which I might relocate since the fenders were replaced at one point so there is no holes to mount in original location, rear seat belts and interior lights. Later plans are disc brakes stereo system, not sure if we want to go with one of the original look with modern hookup type or some kind of Bluetooth setup. The black fender was another nice 58 that belonged to the PO's friend.

I'm going to have questions so bare with me if they seem dumb. I'll search before I ask.

It's pretty easy to fab up turn signals that can hide behind the horn grills.

Some folks like to wire up the parking light bulb to work on the blinkers. That's probably not the best idea as sometimes you can't see it at night when the headlights are on.

Being a static drop... how does it ride? It is super stiff or pretty smooth? I would like to see some pics of the suspension/motor/tranny-raise etc etc.

Great start with a solid car. Hopefully you got a great deal on it too!

Nice car, I like the early big windows and '58 is a great year with the batwing steering wheel. Here is an example of where I relocated my blinkers so that you don't have to drill into your fenders:

I just finished an amateur restoration of a '60 with by dad, it was nice to share a common passion. I hope you have fun working on the car and spending quality time with your son.

It's actually a pretty decent ride for as low as it is. It is on the stiffer side though.

I like that. Are those just trailer lights? How did you get the enclosure to attach to the fender?

On my 64 I have the lights behind the horn grills. I used a piece of 3/4 or 1 inch x 1/8 strap steel and cut a piece that could mount between two of the fender bolts. Then I welded an arm off of that which the light is mounted to.

Simple and easy. No extra holes or sealants or glues.

Most good auto parts stores have a decent selection of lights to choose from.

Thanks I'm going to start looking into that. Stone just turned 16 last week but is still working on his license. Planning on ordering parts this weekend, mirror, wiper arms, some emblems and we'll see what else ends up in the shopping cart. Is one place better than others or is it all personal preference?

Can't really go wrong with Wolfsburg West. Always had great customer service and good quality parts.

West Coast Metric is good, too, though I've been disappointed on a few parts more recently.

start here http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/
They have the best quality and best customer service.
West coast Metric is good as well https://www.westcoastmetric.com/index.ph
http://www.aircooled.net/
steer clear from Cip1/Mid America Motorworks when it comes to the important stuff like brakes , suspension parts and engine parts.

Since one of you asked about Stone's previous toys. This is a picture of his trike "Honor Roll". We named it that because he's always been on honor roll or principal's list and earned parts with his grades.

I was always on the principle's list too but it wasn't his good list.

Lol yeah me too. Glad he's nothing like the way I was. My little guy who's only three is a whole different story. Definitely going to pay back what I put my parents through. Doesn't help that he has seven boy cousins plus or minus a year in age.
