Anyone catch that nice single port on their sawmill up in the bush? Every time one of them fires up that mill they have to work on something but its never the engine. Just love all the machines people run with these little engines... I've now seen welder/generator, air compressor, saw mill, tractor, trasher and even a walking roto tiller thing.....
If I were in Alaska and had to depend on an engine, I'd pick a flat four as well.

One of the boats on the show about dredging for gold in Alaska uses a VW engine for their water pumps.

Didn't that boat actually have two VW engines?

FYI

VW manufactured a line of industrial air cooled engines just for such uses. Most of the industrial applications weren't ingenious on site inventions but quite intentional indeed.
