I had my engine top end overhauled........I gave him permission to
replace the heat exchangers with J pipes.(I live in FL)

The J pipes are extremly close to the bottom of the heads, maybe 1/8"
clearance.
Will this be okay or should I make a heat shield or wrap the pipes.

Don Crying or Very sad

The heat is definitely not a factor, but if they rub it will be.

This is what you need to insure correct cooling of your engine now it has no heater boxes:

For what it's worth, I live in south FL, and I haven't had any problems running stock tins with J-pipes.

That is sooo cool.
When I put the J's on my 1776, I made something IDENTICAL to the industrial shields, had never seen a set before, but mine look identical!
I made mine out of aluminum sheets from the Hardware store.
Look good and my engine doesn't run hot.
