Are you going to wrap the exhaust as it passes near the air cleaner? Seems like it might melt being that close.
I am now rethinking mounting my identical air cleaner up high on my cage....I'll wait until after you make your "little run" to La Paz and see how it holds up where you put it.
Good luck with finishing your build in time, and best of luck for your race as well. |
NO NO NO .. I never wrap exhausts as it tends to create more issues than solutions.
The Air Cleaner had no issues on the test run but it has a few small tweaks to be done before we do the final run. |

Where do you mount the battery? |
Battery is under the rear parcel tray area. The DS has a battery box setup there |

I'll be watching. I have my airbox already but not crazy about my options for ducting to two carburetors to an overhead mounting location. Much simpler with your single intake and lower mount. I'll start looking for spots on my engine cage that might work.
Clock is ticking man, quit screwing around reading posts! |

Buggy is Done, race was run, We finished with a few small issue but nothing to do with design or function. We learnt a lot and doing 1000 plus race miles was never enough so after the race we took a day off in Cabao, re-fueled and then drove the 1200 odd miles back to Valley Center, now that's a cool DualSports !!
Big thanks to everyone who helped out full report to follow.

We had a LOT of people tells us we would never make it, had no idea, where stupid for trying etc. Funnily enough many of them have never raced shit and have no IDEA WTF they are talking about. It was only through the support of our Sponsors and awesome input from our Team Members that we succeeded where many thought we would fail.
I can not emphasis enough the need to use quality parts and skilled labor when you try such things. The only parts we had on the cars that let us down where from EMPI and another Chinese supplier. The majority of our Drivers where novice and did a great job of keeping it together. The suspension setup from Sonny at DownSouth Motorsports was thanked more than once as we his some pretty gnarly stuff at speed.
Anyway thanks again to everyone who gave us support and if you want any feedback on the products we used please ask. I will be doing up full reviews and posting as we go and I am VERY HAPPY to say that with the exception of those items mentioned above I will be using the same suppliers in all future builds without change.
A quick List of what we ended up with
Body - Meyers Manx DualSport Kit (MeyersManx.com)

Engine - Subaru EJ 25 SOHC with stock ECU built by Chris at SubiWorks (http://www.subieworks.com)
Transmission - SubiWorks Built SubaruGears R&P Offroad Spec 4.86: 1 (subarugears.com)
Wheels - Method Race Wheels - 15 x 4.5 front, 15 x 7" BeadLock rear (http://www.methodracewheels.com/)

Ok so I have had a few people ask what it took to get it done and even suggest we may have had smoke and mirrors. Now luckily I am a better fabricator than video editor but I thought I would smash out a bit of a time lapse to show it all unfold from when my mad Aussie Mates got here till completion. Taking just over 12 minutes you would never guess we worked from 8.00 am most days till 2 or 3 am then next day for pretty much 3 weeks straight. I say pretty much as we skipped a few days worth of sleep when we needed to make time lines.
Anyway pictures are worth a thousand words so excusing my awesome editing hopefully it will put a smile on some peoples faces.
I must again iterate though if the parts we used were not up to task we would have failed cause our time line sure as hell didn't have time in it to chase suppliers or get stuff fixed.
Enjoy ..

Smoke and mirrors?Lol.
I had to go back and review my text messages to see what day it was I was at your shop.It was Jan 23.
I'm witness to the fact that on that day this car we see was not much more than a plan. You had taken delivery of the wheels that day.
Folks,Brad and apparently his fab team is the real deal.I saw the diner car the engine was sourced from, saw the pan they had initially intended to use,the big ass pile of wire loom that needed to be chopped and reassembled, saw the extra body hanging from the hoist as a mock tool.
Honestly I had to question if this project could be completed within the time line when i started reading this thread. After meeting Brad,I had no question he and his team would make their goal.
The car looks great,Brad.Sounds like it performed well.
I want one! _________________ AKA RDP's Gelcoater |

Well the dust has begun to settle and the car has been cleaned. It will get some TLC over the coming weeks and have the RacePak removed and rear seat etc put in to put it back on family duties.
