|
|
Hi everyone. I've been driving my Ghia to and from work a lot lately and with the short days, it is dark when I drive it. Since the car sits so low, I get a lot of headlight glare in the rearview mirror. Does anybody know of an optional day/night mirror that was offered for 1967 Ghias? Thanks. |

I know that the Beetle Cabriolet had something similar to a day/night mirror to switch views depending upon whether the cabriolet top was up or down.
Perhaps Ghia Cabriolets had a similar mirror - I don't know as I've only owned Ghia coupes.
You could always resort to the old 4&1 modification to your existing mirror if you're desperate.
... you know, grab it with 4 fingers on top and 1 thumb on the bottom and modify the mirror's position manually. |

I have an the original 67 mirror in my Ghia. No flipper for day/night.
There is an EMPI repop that ISP West carries for Beetles.
I too hate the nighttime glare. This has me thinking you could find a decent 67 Ghia mirror for parts perhaps the shorter Ghia stem could be transplanted to the repop?

I bought a used day/night rear view mirror from someone who advertised it here in the Classifieds. It is identical to the original mirror in my '68 Ghia coupé except for the day/night function. It's an original part alright. I'm sure if you ask for one - in the Classifieds - you'll soon have one.
KGP&R advertises one with the day/night function as a reproduction for $92.03. It's shown as a 68-74 rv mirror. The '67 rv mirror is described as hard-to-find, and from the drawing in the brochure, does not appear to have a day/night function.
Here's a link to a depiction of your original mirror - for a '67. No day/night switch there. (350 Euro - Ouch!)

Looks like you'll have to settle for a '68 and up vert mirror. (I paid $50 for mine.) _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

My 71 convertible has one. The 69 donor coupe car had a regular one. |

The trouble with the day/night function in this car is that the mirror is so small and light, the act of flipping the lever with your finger usually knocks the mirror out of position. It's easier just to grab the entire mirror and rotate it up a couple of degrees. |

I already shortened the mirror arm to raise it a bit, but that didn't really help. It doesn't look like the 1968 and up mirror is a bolt-on replacement and I don't want to drill new holes. Maybe some window tint on it will help. |

What about something like this?
I too hate glare, but I just turn it up a bit. Right now I don't even have a rear veiw mirror
