I've never had a fan fail, though it's possible. I'd check everything else first... valve gap, compression, timing, plugs and plug wires... a tune-up often shows faults that cure poor-running ills.

I have a vibration at idle too but mines when its in drive I think mine is the fact my idle is a hair too low!! but I had a vibration before when it was in neutral turns out it was one of the carbs held open slightly!! but I would check plugs wires compression and all the tune up things 1st!!
come to think about it I have a buzzing coming from my fan too it didn't do it on my old engine but does on this loaner I have hmmm if I figure it out ill post back!! |

Fans are the same from 64 on.
Remove the fan belt, and see IF you still have the vibration. If that eliminated the vibration, then it's generator bearings going bad.
If it didn't, then I'd double check the torque on the fan bolt, before going any further. It should be torqued to 95 to 103 ftlbs. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

For what it's worth, I had a similar issue with my last squareback and after doing a complete tune up it ran fine with the vibration gone. |

There is a picture somewhere here of a stock muffler cut open. There are equal lengths of exhaust pipes on the inside.
A long screwdriver held to your ear can really help find that kind of stuff while the motor is running. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

If you still had the vibration with the belt off, and then with the fan off, the problem lies elsewhere.
This could be as simple as a clutch/pressure plate, or even the flywheel. You're going to have to do some digging to find it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

How are the rubber engine mounts?
Is anything metal from the engine, transmission, or shift linkage contacting the body? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
