I want to run atleast 33" tires with a bus tranny and 930 but do you think I could get away with 35"s or 37"? I want to build a woods bug that doesn't get hung up in the deep 4x4 ruts in the mudholes. I drive over really rough stuff more than going fast and jumping but I do plan on jumping sometimes also. Thanks for your time.

I have 32" mickey thompsons right now but they measure only 30". I only have a type 1 tranny rightnow. Yes with big tires and stock tranny you dont use 4th unless you are going down hill. I will have a modified bus tranny hooked to 930 CVs before I mount the 35"+ size tires. I have already trashed my stock tranny while running the 30" tires. I lost second and I have only had the tires on the car for a couple of months.

I have a 1970 baja with 30" mud terrains and a stock type 1 tranny. Fourth gear is freeway only. I'm pulling 65 to 70 mph at 2000rpm. I roll in sand and cant use 3rd or 4th unless I really wind it out. I really need close ratio 3rd and 4th!

I dont think there would be clearance for a tire that large would there?Even with a bus trans I think larger than 33" would be hard on it.

Yea, a 30" tall tire is the biggest that will fit with stock trailing arms. The tires I have say 32" on the side but are actually around 30" and barley fit. When I get the bus tranny and 930 CVs I will have 3x3 or 2x5 trailing arms. That will set the axl back for the big tires. I also plan on having a nice transforms tranny out of the VW mag. I hope a $700 or $800 tranny would hold up to 35" tires.

Try giving Dave Folts a call @(562)694-5591. This guy builds some of the best transaxles in the business! Let him know what you want to do and he can set you up with a killer box.

i have 31 inch swampers onmy beetle and they clear with ease on the torsion housing. i put 35's on my 091 trans manx to see if i could turn them. i can but not in 4th gear unstopable in the mud! i was using a TIV 2.0 liter though.

That is what I'm talkin' about. Big mud buggies to get out there on give these 4x4 trucks some hell. I hope to see the mud manx soon. I am tring to get my bug ready for summer. I think the ol' Vdub has got something for the big trucks. I can't wait. I plan on being able to get my own self out of the hole 'cause I know the big trucks will be pissed at me.
