Has anyone tried the Rustoleum Automotive line of paints? Homedepot caries them online. They seem reasonable for the price with free delivery to your door or your local store.

A gallon of Kirker Acrylic Urethane is only 80 dollars. I don't think 2 quarts is enough so the good stuff is actually cheaper than the Rustoleum.

OK it needs 80 dollars a gallon primer so maybe not cheaper. Rolling Eyes

I am also a little disappointed with the chip resistance. I love gravel roads through the Kentucky hills. I had a lot of chips on my rear fenders.

I have not heard of this before, but I did look at the website. Your color choices are limited to what they offer. If that's not a problem, I think the next step is determining if others have used their product, and how did it work out? Was it easy to use, did it flow nicely, is the appearance equal to what was desired, and did it hold up?

If you're the pioneering sort, give it a try and start a thread on it.

As previous post stated. Pick some up & give it whirl. Do a couple of spray outs to see the coverage. Take some white & black paper or painted metal & spray over to see coverage ( one or two coats) take a piece that you painted & attach to the front of your daily driver & see how it looks after a week or 2 of stones & debris hitting it. Post results.

The only thing that prevents stone chips in the paint & color oxidation is having a good layer of clear on top of it. Spray all the base & clear the same day & you'll have a long lasting & spot repairable paint job.

P.S. 2 quarts of paint isn't enough to have on hand when you start painting it!

I think he will need more, but at least he can play with some & see if he likes the colors & finish. I would imagine the color on the can will be different than the color after the spray out.

What product would you clear it with?

When I started this thread I was just curious if anybody had tried rustoleums line of automotive paints. If you look on Homedepots website you will notice they also carry an automotive clear coat. I myself am not ready for paint just yet. Still cutting out rust and patching.

I can vouch for Rustoleums Rusty metal primer. Several years ago I sand blasted a rear truck frame and brush painted the bare metal ( 2 coats) and never top coated it for 2 years. This was outside summer and winter, rain or shine and NEVER rusted!! I'm sure this could be sprayed if mixed correctly from an HVLP gun. I was planning to use this instead of POR-15, cheaper and readily available.....
