My thoughts are on cylinder heads.
Rebuilt ones have gone thru many many heat/cold cycles right.
New ones have not gone thru heat cycles.
Some quotes $350 pair rebuilt and $360 pair new. All stock nothing else.
As I am comparing prices of each for the difference I am gonna go new. Chime in with your input.

Old and often repeated thought pattern with these Antiques........

Good Used OG parts trump new of questionable quality everytime.

For the cost of new heads, I won't waste my money rebuilding old heads. I'm shocked nobody makes new single port heads.

Are we discussing a type 1 or a type 4?, the likelyhood of a used head being worth rebuilding and using reliably is vastly different between the two.

I am referring to the type 1 engines. The stock 1600 dual port heads.

well ive seen rebuilt vw heads, kinda like the ones that were on my car when I got it in 02, they had somuch welding to them I cant for the life of me understand how anybody made any money rebuilding them, and back then a new oe vw head was about $60.00so.....you do the math.shops just want work and owners want thire shit fixed.new heads are cheep newer and better, but you cant fix stupid., now days the china guys have put out thier super low cost(to the venders&shops building them)heads(that cost us the same as the vw or brizill) and well the shops stoped buying the brazill&vw heads.so.....no wonder the china head is all thats left.unless you go for the cb or mofoco stuff.and those are quite expensive.then there is the "noname"or off label or made for performance heads out there that you never see addvertized.mostly for racing...if those are even still around.and then there is the heads that are sort of made in the usa,but arnt, but are assembled or machined from china castings.so just what is the down side of the china heads??????they now run the market as the others have no reason to try to survive. I have a set of mofoco heads that have over 100000 miles and work just fine. I have 2 sets of cb 044 heads 1 set is just fine one set I bought used and ...well...they need a lot of work&welding. you cant always get what you want but I hope you want what you get.
