I've been pimping it on some of the FB Vanagon sites so hopefully that has generated some entries...

I have been too. Unfortunately I dont think its because we're not getting the word out, I think people are hesitant for fear of information getting in the wrong hands (nobody has to share anything they dont want to and the information that's being asked for is pretty benign) or they find it useless (as a friend of mine with a gorgeous 2WD orly blue westy says...after all, what good is a list of vans with a description?).

It really is nothing more than geeking out on Vanagons and a fun way to share within our community. Who knows, maybe over time it will grow into something great.

Funny. I had a little paranoia (for some weird reason) at first but after thinking through it I realized there is no risk involved.

And if people think its useless, then I guess they don't spend the time geeking out over Vanagons that we do! Their loss!

Anyway we can make this thread sticky (moderator)? It might get more attention if we pin it to the top...just a thought. Thanks!

Well the registry has stalled, or slowed to a crawl. Not sure if it's Vanagon syndrome or crud in the tank or if I need a whole new ECU.
We're up to 95 so far which slightly under-represents the 100's of 1000's of vans produced Rolling Eyes

Guess the interest isn't that strong. Rocketed up to 50 or so in a few days, then crawled up to 95 over a month. I will continue on with it for sure but please share with whomever. I find it an entertaining read with comments about POs and van names, plus some of the truly unique rigs, and I hope others do too. There's a LINK IN MY SIGNATURE.

On the plus I'll find out today if another van will join my fleet and will be added to the registry, though "Gus" and "Not Bob" will have to find new owners if I am to stay married. I'm already the but of neighbours jokes...I offset the nice home improvements I do with dead vans in the driveway...

That can be tough but you can get it either from the build sticker by the fuse box if still there or the M-code plate under the drivers seat.

For example my van has "LD5T" on the build sticker:

And it also says "9016" at the beginning of the second line on the metal tag beneath the driver's seat:

Either code translates to Star Blue Metallic as listed here:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=527875

And thanks Tarandus. The hard part was building, easy to sit back and hop people fill it. Was thinking it'd be nice to have a photo column to post links to pictures...but then 95 people would have to send me that to catch up...

Where is my Mplate? I have a 91 westfalia. I located the sticker near the fuse panel which has a few numbers and paint code etc. on it but I can not seem to locate the metal plate.

I have looked all around the 2nd battery box as well as inside it and around the driver seat. I have used the search as well as google. I just can not seem to locate it.

Inaccessible if your van has unaltered, factory swivel seat bases. Sad

A mirror is indeed a handy tool, but in this case I'm afraid accessing the plate would require one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/diagnostics/digital-inspection-camera-61839.html ...

Maybe. I work on stringed instruments for a living and I'm pretty good inside a violin with a dental mirror and a flashlight. Smile I also have one of these:

Stickyed? AWESOME! Cool
Thanks!

Yes, in spite of the fleet currently hogging up my driveway I haven't had a van with swivel seats yet so sorry about the miss-info! Although a smartphone with a flash might do it!

Up to 108 now...Average Van is a 1984 US Westfalia Vanagon GL in pastel white with a 2.1L and a 2wd 4 speed manual owned for 8 years. Yes a 2.1l in a 1984 isn't common...just the most common motor entered so far... Keep 'er comin'!

Really happy to see that we got sticky! At least its more visible and with high hopes over time we will be able to fill this registry up.
