Looks interesting. Not a fan of the post-Garcia stuff, but Trey and Bruce make it interesting. As a long time fan, I will likely show up. Hopefully have my poptop by then. I would imagine a sizeable contingency of the poptop nation will be in the parking lot. Doubt it will get close to selling out - Soldier Field is crazy big, maybe 70,000. |

So many reasons to miss this one...the fam, the job, the money, the time.
But the GD has meant so much to my life that I think I need to make the effort.
It is 1000 miles from here in Maine...caravan anyone?
I need a miracle! _________________ '87 WBWE FAS Gen V

Having toured off and on from 81-95, my personal take is that Jerry was the magic and that can never return. He could connect in some otherworldly way to the crowd that the rest of the band never could manage. I have seen some of the rehashed attempts over the last 20 years and I walked out on the last on (at Red Rocks!!) when Bobby couldn't remember the words to his own songs. I very much hope that some force propels them to deliver 3 good shows, they really should be free to the public at this point as well. RIP Fast Eddie _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Sadly, I witnessed this also. I also saw Bobby get pissed off at Rob Wasserman when Rob went off too long on a solo. I wouldn't walk out on a show though. I followed the Dead from the mid 80's to the early 90's. I'll miss any incarnation of the band. But it is true, Jerry had something special going on. Phil also has a unique presence and a most likeable attitude. I would love to see the final four together again, yet I believe it will not be possible. |

I seem to recall Jerry forgetting the words on a few occasions Never walked out of a show because of it though. Jerry's gone and time marches on. I've continued to enjoy all the GD family stuff, Further,Ratdog etc. thankful that they've continued to make great music all these years even though its not the Grateful Dead. Its better than nothing and certainly better than 90% of the other crap you hear. Not too thrilled about Trey playing these last gigs though. Would rather had Kadlecik or Kimock. _________________

Word. I saw The Dead at the Forum in 09 and Haynes was amazing. Anyway to keep this thread from getting locked, who knows Soldier Field and what opportunities there are for van camping during the shows? It would be fantastic to bid the Dead goodnight with a strong VW presence! If not at the venue then what are the surroundings like for a 3 day stint? _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Yes, yes Jerry forgot plenty of lines at shows, that is beside the point . He was able to connect..either you get that or you weren't there. Chicago digs..those "in the know" used to hand at HacHenry. A a short hop to the gig with out the "lot-ache" that developed towards the end. The William Tell hotel used to be a rockin' good time. memories before the balloon heads ruined the scene. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Looks like I'm going to make it. Mail order tomorrow. Air fare from Ft. Lauderdale is less than I thought. |

Most VW owners are not freaks and hippies. And many fly under the radar. |

Best quote in a very long time...Please, please use the proper spelling...it is "freeks" not freaks (that is circus terminology). I truly wish these shows are a good time for all that attend. Any Bus's driving out of Colorado be very careful, a Colorado plate is a bullseye target for law enforcement elsewhere. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Not that it really matters, but....
Freaks & Motherfuckers (BTB)
Note: The correct title of this album is "Freaks And Motherfu#@%!" by Frank Zappa
and
Freaks and Geeks (TV Series 1999–2000)
and
No one came from miles around and said
"Man, your music is really hot"
Well, I knew what they meant because I was a freak: Deep Purple - No One Came Lyrics
Anyway, it will be good to see Freeks/Freaks and the whole scene one last time. |

Touche!! I hope a great time is had by all at the final 3 shows. May the LEO's leave the lot scene in peace so that some one at the end of a show can get the best $1 toasted cheese sandwich of their lives! It was a very special time in my life that is almost impossible to describe accurately. The Grateful Dead made a pretty decent VW mechanic out of me as well as I pushed my Bay beyond all reasonable limits (over 700K miles more or less since new). _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
