|

Hello, I found some rusted thru spots on the bottom side of both heater channels. Other than those few spots they are in really good shape. I found this at Wolfsburg West, they call it a side member bottom plate and it looks exactly like what i need. What i want to know is if anyone has just replaced this piece instead of the whole heater channel, and is it spot welded on or what? The original channels look like that they are all one piece and i cant see any seams where the heater channel and this bottom plate are welded together. Thanks for any help or advise on this.
Randy

Sand or grind along the outside edges and you'll see hundreds of spot welds. Might be hard to see if they're really rusty. _________________

Well, while wire brushing off the gunk to look for the spot welds i found a lot of rusted thru spots on the sides so i have to replace the complete drivers side heater channel. The ones i see advertised are mostly for 58 to 68, will those fit a 57? What are the differences between those and the ones for 57?
Some of the ads say 48 to 68 so now i am really not sure what i need...

Klassic Fab (gerson) makes great split and early oval heater channels. _________________ Chris

I'd take the bottoms off first. I did mine and just cut the rusted sections out, easier than the whole channel. I bought mine from Gerson, the bottoms. There is a spot weld about every inch. The major difference is the heater outlet and the stampings on the bottom. Sedan can be seen if you look under, vert is hidden by support rail. |
